4.3.1 Short Answer: Funding in Research Article Review I chose the article regarding the television show “Tyson Cosmos”, by Jim Algar on the Tech Times website. Jim discusses Clair Patterson’s work in determining the true age of Earth. Thanks to Patterson’s battle with the petroleum industry regarding scientific research he performed, he was able to play a key role in the United States banning lead in products such as gasoline, paint, and a good amount of canned goods (Jim Algar, 2014). While scientists are being outspoken regarding environmental dangers, companies with vested interests choose to hire their own scientists to work hand in hand with the others. I feel that companies are looking out for their best interest rather than what is best for the Earth. While they may put up a front and help the greater good some, their main focus is on financial gain within the company.
