Why did Japan bomb Pearl Harbor? They wanted to prevent the US from attacking japan, they wanted to continue to take over countries in southeast Asia, and they wanted to cripple the us navy 2. How did the American people react to the bombing of Pearl Harbor? They declared war on japan the next day 3. What is a citizen soldier? Why does the United States have a particular history of citizen soldiers? An army composed of ordinary citizens rather than professional soldiers; citizen soldiers refers to a military force composed of ordinary citizens to provide defense and emergency law. 4. Discuss the transition from a peacetime economy to wartime economy that occurred in the United States during World War II. Well? 5. Women workers increased dramatically during the war. Why was there resistance at first to women working in war plants? Women were considered not to have the stamina to work long hours. It was thought that women would take the jobs from the men who needed them, and that families would suffer greatly with the women not home. Men did not want to supervise or work with women. 6. Why were women accepted in the defense industries after some initial reservations and resistance? Women worked in the defense industry during WWII because so many men were overseas fighting that their labor was needed 7. World War II was not fought on American soil. Nevertheless, the impact of the war was tremendous. How did World War II alter the American homefront? A lot of commodities were rationed, like gas. There were black outs in some major cities. Many women joined the work force to help with the effort and still today remain in the workforce. 8. How did the United States use propaganda to unify the American people behind the war effort? The united states were able to build an effective propaganda machine. The media also constantly referred to pearl harbor to keep reminding people why the war was important. 9. Why were Japanese-Americans banished to internment camps? Why weren’t German-Americans or Italian-Americans interned? Why is this one of the greatest civil rights violations in American history? Japanese-Americans were interned because America feared for its safety. They thought many of the Japanese were spies for the war. And german-americans and Italian-americans interned. 10. Discuss the impact of Frank Sinatra on American culture during World War II. Sinatra’s tender romanticism served as the dreamy emotional link between millions of women and their husbands and boyfriends fighting overseas. His was the music of love and connection for those involved in the conflict. 11. Discuss the impact of D-Day on the course of the war. The impact would be that the allies had a secure beach head at the end of the day. Which then let them spread out and eventually conquer the all mighty german army
