Ricqui Holly 7-2 Journal: Leading Effective Groups and Teams 12/11/2020 1. Think about a positive experience when you worked in a group or team and identify the principles that were presented in the articles that were exhibited by your group or team. Explain how these principles helped the group or team succeed. When I was working in a group on a group assignment in high school it actually went very well overall on the Black History Report. The group had an effective understanding of the big picture and shared the same vision of the end result. All 5 of us wanted to get an A on the assignment and really share knowledge of Thurgood Marshall so we also shared the same goals. We all were different which helped us use all of our different strengths to hold different responsibilities in getting the project completed. These principles helped the group succeed because we all use our differences to our advantage and we all wanted the same thing so we all worked hard to achieve the goal. When everyone understand each other everyone pulls their own weight. 2. Think about a negative experience when you worked in a group or team and identify which principles from the articles were lacking. Explain how the lack of these principles led to poor performance of the group or team. I also have had plenty of negative experiences when working with a group. I was partnered with the wide receiver of the football team on a social studies project. The principle that was lacked in this group was promoting understanding. I tried to take the lead and assignment tasks and jobs equally but he was not grasping why this was a group

effort when I could just do the research and he could present it. I explained to him that we both were equal members on the team and this was not football and he couldn’t take the credit and be the star! It was clear that we did not share the common goal of getting an A. He only wanted to get a “good enough” grade to pass. The project was a disaster and I ended up doing all the leg work but I also presented it because I am the one who did majority of the work. We received a B- because he only sat there and listened to me present it but it was better than a F. Lacking these principles led to no teamwork and both parties not contributing and that led to receiving a grade that didn’t reflect our true potential....
