Slide [3: Leadership] My goal with my team is to not just be a manager but also a Leader. Managers Focus on day to day activities while leaders focus on the big picture. I feel democratic style of leadership will be best suited to manage my team. I will collaborate with my team on important decisions, so they know they are heard and their voice matters. I believe these practices are in line with the organization’s mission, culture, and goals because according it aims to empower employees. The employees feeling more empowered will increase their satisfaction. (Soomo Learning; 2017).”

Slide [4: Followers] In the Soomo learning leadership quiz I proved to be a strong democratic leader. I would leverage my strength as a democratic leader to empower my followers by making them feel they contributed to the organization through the decisions we made as a team. “The benefits of having a democratic leadership style are that employees working under it feel they contribute to the organization at a high level, tend to have high satisfaction, and are more productive because of their participation in the organization’s decision-making process (Soomo learning; 2017).” Working to make decision as a team will mean less mistakes will be made because of our collaborative effort increasing our effectiveness. Working together will also increase dialogue within the team making it a part of our teams’ culture.

Slide [5: Decision making] I will require my team to use a rational decision-making model. They will need to first you identify the problem. Then, determine the criteria to solve the problem. Next, they will weigh their options and come up with alternatives. Last, they will weigh the alternatives and choose the best option. I believe this will be the most effective decision-making model for my team because it will simply the process of each team member explaining how they came to a certain conclusion or why they think a certain decision is best. This will allow each team member to build their decision-making skills and help them increase their confidence in decision making which will help the company’s goal of increasing their satisfaction rating as will consistently produce high quality products because the voices heard are more diverse. This will also create a culture of trust on the team, because every member will know that each decision was accurately weighed. (Soomo Learning; 2020).

Slide [6: Emotional Intelligence] Democratic leadership ensures that my management style will be emotionally intelligent because it requires me to be an active listener towards my team. Everyone being able to speak and be heard will mean the perspective of the team will be as diverse as each member. When followers feel heard they will feel free to express their needs as it relates to their role on the team. I believe this is in alignment with the organization because as a leader it requires me to have empathy towards my followers making my decisions reflective of the diversity of my team and the organization. Me being an active listener towards my team will teach them by example, how to be active listeners towards each other. Over time this will become a part of the team’s culture.

Slide [8: Form and Functions] The organization currently is current based on the element of centralization which means most decisions are made at higher level. This can be an effective way for higher level management to control what happens in the company. However, Soomo Learning webtext tells us “employees believe that decentralized companies provide greater levels of procedural fairness to employees and decentralization is beneficial for creativity, bringing out the best in employees who have an eagerness to learn new things”. The company also has a tall structure which allows managers easily monitor employees. However, Soomo learning webtext also tells us “Research indicates that flat organizations provide greater need satisfaction for employees and greater levels of selfactualization”. The structure in place stifles creativity withing the teams and delays efficiencies as every decision need of go through upper level management. The current structure negatively impacts the teams. If the teams were given more of a chance to make important decisions it will shorten the process of production, this could dramatically increase the effectiveness of the organization and allow for quicker product development (Soomo Learning; 2020).

Slide [9: Communication] Communication across the organization seems to be wavering because although it is high or medium in richness it is inconsistent and varies from team to team. This can cause miscommunication in the organization and employees won’t know where to look for updated information. To minimize miscommunication the organization needs to condense the forms of communication. I recommend the organization adopt the seems means of communicating. For example, the company can only use Google Docs to share files and each team can have their own google doc and if they need to share those files with each other of another team it will be simple.

The same can be done for messaging tools. The organization as a whole can adopt team and only communicated shared information on that platform. This way everyone can be sure what ever information is on there is the most recent. Team meeting will still be used to ensure everyone is updated and on the same page.

Slide [10: Organizational Mission] The general purpose of the organizational mission, culture statements, and goals is to help employees understand what direction the company is moving. They influence the actions of the stakeholders for organizational success. These three things are the build blocks of the leadership and management styles that are used to operate the teams. For example, our mission statement emphasize diversity. Therefore, as a company we should work towards the hearing the diverse voices of our employees. The current organizational structure, leadership and management approaches are not inclusive of the diversity within our teams. Therefore, those diverse voices are not being heard and included within the organizational decisions.
