Description

Case Project 1-3 Security Podcasts The Unsupervised Learning Podcast The Unsupervised Learning Podcast is hosted by Daniel Miessler, an information security professional and writer. Miessler spends about five to twenty hours a week reading articles, books, and podcasts and each episode is either a curated summary of what he has found in the past week, or a standalone essay that provokes some thought. The podcast I listened to was No. 169. First, he goes over some Security News around the world. Some news I found interesting are: 

Multiple governments have now blacklisted Huawei because it’s a Chinese company, and even if they’re not already infiltrated by the Chinese government, they can be at any moment without anyone knowing that it happened.

DARPA is building an open-source, secure voting system.

The Navy says it is under siege by Chinese and other state-level actors that are stealing military secrets from the Navy itself, from its contractors, and Universities working on Navy projects.

I would say overall the podcast was pretty interesting and somewhat beneficial in the sense that it provided some brief updates on what is going on around the world when it comes to IT Security. I would recommend this podcast for anybody that is into daily news podcasts but wants something more tailored towards technology and security. Down the Security Rabbithole Rafal Los and James Jardine team up to deliver the Down the Security Rabbithole podcast, a weekly podcast first introduced in 2011. The podcast focuses on security from a business perspective and features regular guests who speak on current news and offer expert insights on the latest information security trends and happenings. I listened to episode 338 which was titled ‘Failure of Risk Management’. During this episode, they were attending the RSA Conference of 2019 and had Phil Beyer’s as a guest speaker. Phil Beyer is the head of security at Etsy. Throughout the interview, they discuss how hard it is to keep up with security operations and risk management with how fast technology is progressing. The podcast was interesting to listen to, but I did feel like there was a bit of rambling during this interview. The topics seemed too vague in my opinion. I would say that this podcast

Case Project 1-3 Security Podcasts is not the most beneficial but is interesting to gauge other’s opinions. Also, an unrelated opinion, the intro music to the podcast was super distracting and did not make it come across as a legitimate podcast to take stock in. Darknet Diaries The host Jack Rhysider discusses the dark side of the Internet in this podcast and talks all things privacy hacks, data breaches, and cybercrime in this bi-weekly podcast. I listened to the episode 31: Hacker Giraffe. Hacker Giraffe is literally a wanted man, which blew my mind. The hacks made were to raise awareness about open devices, and at the same time, promote a YouTuber that he liked, which is PewDiePie. The whole podcast basically discusses why Hacker Giraffe hacks and what got him into hacking. I honestly thought this was the most interesting podcast I listened to. It provided a unique perspective on the “good guy” versus the “bad guy”. I would say that this podcast is beneficial to anyone that gets tired of the dry material IT security often discusses.
