a mother by James Joyce (A mother)when i read the title of the story i was so curries to know what is the story a bout I thought it will be a bout a mom who is sacrificing her life for her children it was a silly thinking of me ,

however it was a different

story than i thought at the beginning we have the character of the mother Mrs Kearney , her daughter Kathleen and Mr Holohan . Mr Holohan is trying to organize a series of concerts , he visited Mrs Kearney

whose

daughter is a great pianist Mrs Kearney wasn’t surprised from Mr Holohan offer even the mother suggested to write a contract to secure the payment she tried to help him to lay out the program

she was shocked when the

concerts turn out to be not up for her high standards the first and second concerts were poorly attended Mrs Kearney complained to Mr Holohan but he didn’t appear to be bothered

in addition to that

the society’s

committee cancels the third concert this made

Mrs Kearney very angry and she went to Mr Holohan

and insists that such a change

should not affect the payment

however Mr

Holohan refers her to Mr Fitzpatrick on the final concert Mrs. Kearney and her daughter arrived at the performance hall waiting for Mr Holohan to arrive as the musicians wait for Kathleen to join them Mrs Kearney detains her daughter and she announces that Kathleen won’t perform unless Mr Holohan paid all the money Mr Holohan didn’t know what to do Mr Fitzpatrick gave Mrs Kearney half

of the

amount claiming that she will get the rest of the money after the committee meeting next week . Unfortunate i didn’t like the story may be i think the mother has the right to defend her daughter but the hole idea of the story didn’t attract me ....
