Description

A new litter trap design for urban drainage system 1.Introduction Litter is generated in shopping areas and is washed or blown into storm water drainage systems. These convey the litter to open water bodies leading to the accumulation of non-biodegradable litter on the banks and beaches of urban waterways. Then the litter trap is design to capture these non-biodegradable litter from the bad human behavior. Litter trap is a floating device installed at strategic locations along waterways to collect and retain floating litter, vegetation and other debris and holds them safely in a collection basket for removal. This happens regardless of tide changes or water levels and without impeding natural water flow or endangering fish and wildlife. The system operates silently without any mechanical assistance, capturing and retaining debris ready for removal and disposal. 2.Literature review February 2014: The City of Waycross has had its Bandalong Litter Trap in operation for a little over the and one- half years. I can say it's been a total success for us. Our litter trap has been in operation since early April 2010, and to date we have emptied 349 cubic yards of floating litter, and that is with 148.7 of rainfall. We feel like we are intercepting and removing at least 99% of floating litter from our canal system just before it would be entering the Satilla River, one of the most pristine black-water rivers in the State of Georgia. This trash which the Bandalong is catching would be flowing into the Atlantic Ocean through St. Andrews Sound, between two of the famous Gold Isles of Georgia, Jekyll Island and Cumberland Island. We in the City of Waycross Engineering Dept. have been extremely satisfied, not only with the Bandalong Litter Trap's superior build quality, but also with the service after the sale and the commitment to quality and to clean water of Storm Water Systems, Inc. -Steve Pope, Project Manager in the Engineering Department for the City of Waycross, GA....
