(AC-S09) Week 09 - Task: Assignment - A success story from Peru “The great Pedro Suárez Vértiz” Pedro Suárez Vértiz was born in Callao on February 13, 1969. He is a renowned Peruvian musician, singer, composer, producer and writer. The son of Germán Hernando Suárez Vértiz, director of the Lima Art Museum. He is married to Cynthia Martínez, with whom he has 3 children. Since 2007 he has suffered from dysarthria, a disease also called bulbar neuromuscular syndrome that is characterized by difficulties in speaking and breathing, generating problems with coordination and intensity of the voice. But this did not prevent him from being successful, since he formed together with his brother Patricio the first group of them, which they called Paranoia. Shortly after, at age 17, he led the band Arena Hash in 1985 and signed with the CBS record label three years later. The group released two albums, Arena Hash in 1998 and Ah Ah Ah in 1991. In March 2010, he received the highest musical distinction that exists in his country, the "Palmas Musicales Eduardo Márquez Talledo". In September 2010, he received the Save the Planet Award at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Washington, in recognition of his musical and charitable work towards the environment. Additionally, he has received gold, double platinum, and triple platinum records. Since 2011, Pedro Suárez Vértiz manifested an obvious bad diction. He himself explained that it was the product of a muscular nervous disorder, which manifests itself with his age, added to a chronic

attention deficit that makes him look extremely distracted and confused when speaking. This greatly affects his singing. Pedro stated that he regretted proclaiming his flaw, as it only drew attention to him. He has reduced his interviews and increased his shows because singing has been recommended as rehabilitation therapy. In 2013, already away from the stage, he published his first book: “Yo, Pedro”....
