a. Write a two-paragraph essay (approximately 200 words) expressing your current likes and dislikes at work or school. The chart in lesson 3.1 contains eight different ways to express like and dislike. Use all eight in your paragraphs. Please note that the purpose of this activity is to practice how to correctly combine like/dislike expressions with verbs, not nouns. Therefore, sentences like “I can’t stand my boss” do not count towards the eight expressions you must include. Instead you could write, “I can’t stand working with my boss.” I am a production assistant for a busy marketing firm in Miami. I shoot commercials for many hair care and cosmetic lines, and we also have a large photography department for magazine spreads and billboards. Although we’re located in the US, over half the commercials we shoot are in Spanish. My job is chaotic, but it’s never dull. The thing of my work that I love most is meeting famous people who come on set to shoot. Most of them are very nice and don’t mind taking a picture with me or giving me their autograph. What I enjoy most is working with my team because everyone has a great sense of humor and we spend so much time with each other that it feels like we’ve become family. On Fridays, But what I usually look forward most to going out for a quick drink with my colleagues after work. What I like best about my job is seeing a commercial I helped create when I’m watching TV with my family, because I can tell my kids, “Mommy did that!” My job has its downsides, though. What I hate the most is having to work such long hours. A typical day is usually 13 hours. The thing I dread for me is having to miss things like parent-teacher conferences or my kids’ soccer games, but luckily, my job pays well. I feel like the sacrifices I make are worth it. What I also can’t stand shooting on location because it usually makes my work day even longer and the thing that I don’t like is being away from my family. However, I have a two-week vacation coming up, so I’m really looking forward to spending some quality time with my husband and kids....
