STUDENT’S INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Check the reading in Activity 9 format and read carefully. 2. Complete the following exercises: 3. Are you familiar with the phrase “How have you been”? It is used to describe how what has happened, has affected your situation now. 4. Look at the following situations, pick five, and write down how you’d answer that question (how have you been?) in each case. Make sure you use at least one sentence in simple past, and one in present perfect. ○ You’ve gotten a job. I have been grateful because I got a job in Dolphin discovery. I worked very hard last week. ○ ○ ○
Your wallet has been stolen. You’ve bought a house. You’ve won the lottery. I have bought a big house for my parents. I am so excited for this opportunity.
○
You’ve failed an exam. I have been very nervous since last night. I felt sick last night and I didn’t study.
○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○
You’ve lost your keys. You’ve passed your driving test. You’ve received a promotion. You’ve been to the dentist. Your house has burnt down. You’ve been on holiday. Your dog has run away. You’ve fallen in love. I have been thinking about this person all day. I mentioned him many times with my friends
○
You’ve crashed your car. I have been distracted when I drove this morning. I didn’t wear the seat belt.
○
You’ve split up with your partner.
5. Now you’ll read what Nadine Stair (an 85-year-old woman) answered when she was asked what she would do if she could live her life all over again. Go to Activity 9 and read her answer. 6. Then, record yourself answering the following questions: ○ Why do you think Nadine would dare to make more mistakes next time? Find evidences on the text. I think that she regret because she didn't do things that she would have liked to do when she was younger ○
How does she describe herself? She describe herself that one seriously person who lives in sanely day after day and very cautious because she never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, etc
○
Do you think you would regret so many things if you were her age? Why or why not? Yes, because life is very short and if I was 85 years, I think that there would be things that I really would have liked to do when I was young. So I think that I would have some regret that I couldn't do it .
For standard level students: Think about your life. Look at the following questions and choose 1. Record yourself while answering the question. Include at least 2 type conditional 2 sentences, 2 present perfect sentences and 2 sentences in simple past. ○ ○ ○ ○ ○
What would you do if you could go back in any part of history? What would you do if you were the president of the country? What would you ask if you had three wishes? What would you do if you could become invisible for a day? What would you do differently if you could live your life all over again? If I could live my life again, I would learn english and other languages such as french or korean since younger. I would drive the bicycle, learn to swim and I think that I could dance at the academy.
