Classroom and Behavior Management Framework Harry Wong’s Effective Classroom

The first classroom behavior that I chose to review was Harry Wong’s Effective classroom. This classroom management technique had both its pros and cons. The pro points that I found in this technique are that it from the beginning lets the students know exactly what is expected in the classroom. He feels that students should have dripline, structure, and consistent routines. This are all things that I believe in as well. However, I do not feel that this theory of classroom management gives much flexibility, nor does it look at those students that may have disabilities, or have a different way of learning while in the classroom.

Fred Jones Positive Classroom Discipline

The next classroom management behavior that I chose to observe is the Fred Jones Positive classroom dripline. This classroom management technique also has its pros and cons when using it in the classroom. One of the cons is that it sets clear limits for the students. Setting expectations so that they students know what to expectation, and what the repercussions of their actions. The cons of this theory are that it at times can be challenging for the educator due to there is no room for flexibility or straying of course of the current topic. I feel that in the classroom their has to be room for flexibility, and this one does not offer that ability. It makes the students almost feel as though they are robots and not humans.

Reflection

As I look at the different techniques and strategies that can be used to properly manage a classroom, I love to see how each philosopher has different techniques that he or she feels should be used because of evidence that they have found. I believe it is important to look at the way other educators have run their classroom and to take the pros and cons from these techniques. Me personally I want to ensure that the classroom has structure and consistency. However, I do want to ensure that my students do have the ability to express what it is they would like from me as a teacher, and how they feel that we should experience things within the classroom. I do not want my students to feel as though they are robots and do not have any freedom in the classroom. I want them to feel respected just as I as an educator want to feel respected and I want them to know that they have input in the classroom and feel that they can be a part of the environment. I also want the environment to be a fun learning experience for them, and for them to know that they can give input.
