ANNA CHRISTIE EUGENE O´NEILL (1888-1953) -Born in 1888 -He was one of the first authors to introduce techniques of realism in American theater (earlier associated with Anton Chekhov, among others). -His works always involve tragedy and a sense od pessimism, both derived from his personal struggles with depression and alcoholism. -Died in 1953 -Won the Pulitzer prize in 1922 and was quickly adapted into several movies -one of the first American plays to employ vernacular language and deal with characters from the working classes. -O´Neill wrote three different versions of the play, the other two titled Chris and Dat Ole Devil Sea -Makes use of traditional `slice of life´ elements, but it adds touches of symbolism.
