- It allows those who are reading your work to locate your sources, in order to learn more about the ideas that you include in your paper. Citing your sources consistently and accurately helps you avoid committing plagiarism in your writing.

Important to remind the class that Plagiarism is trying to pass someone else’s ideas or writing as your own. A serious offense can damage the reputation of a writer forever and lead to very serious consequences if committed in an academic or professional setting.

“What will you feel if someone use your own work and claimed it that it was their own?” (Expected that the answers are varied base on students’ personal thoughts.) There is nothing more infuriating than someone taking credit for your work. We’ve all had this happen at one point or another: you share an idea with a colleague and then hear him repeat it in a meeting or recitation; you stay late to finish a presentation yet your team member accepts all the praise.
