Rin Aduna Professor Regan Writing 106 3 April 2017 Apple CSR Claim: Apple experienced setbacks with a violation of Chinese worker’s rights 2010 and despite implementing change in the form of overtime hour regulation and income transparency, factory conditions do not correlate with their claims of positive change. Proposal: Based on the articles that I found, I will include several interview quotes from upper management to give details on the new policies Apple is implementing. I will include in interview with Jacky Haynes, Apple’s director of supplier responsibility to provide some credibility: she recognizes the fact that Apple has made mistakes and informs the interviewer that Apple implemented the Environment, Safety, and Health Academy while making efforts to provide extensive information on their reports. Based on the second article, another interview is taking place in Pegatron corp., an iPhone factory in Shanghai. I will record the changes in policy and worker treatment based on John Sheu’s (president of Pegatron) account to see whether the actions taken in China actually correlate to Haynes’ statements. To compare both of their accounts to see if the change is actually taking effect, I included an article contrasts Haynes’ and Sheu’s claims with undercover evidence. The third article exposes the fact that workers fall asleep from exhaustion which contrasts with overtime improvement regulations.
