I agree with the indigenous people’s preservation of culture and conservation of nature that impede development simply because they help protect our environment and prevents climate change. As the typhoon Rolly and Ulysses, it warns us to care about our ecosystem and help to plant trees. It is important to give relevance to IP because they mostly contribute in protecting our country’s wealth. They also developed agricultural biodiversity that includes varieties of crops, poultry breeds and unique ecosystems. As mentioned from the video, land reform is not appropriate for IP peoples since they use their lands for their living. It is there expertise to maintain and grow the land with proper use instead of government abusing their powers. Many indigenous people are killed also called as “Lumad Killings” due to fighting and protecting for their rights and live in peace for their land. It is essential to protect the human rights of indigenous peoples and ensure that they are involved in the development process, and that they have the ability to live better, healthier and more prosperous lives. The right of all people to decide their own economic, social, and cultural growth is expressed by selfdetermination. Accordingly, the International Court of Justice has described self-determination as the need to take account of the freely expressed will of the people. Indigenous people must also live the way they live and must prevent them from transferring from other areas because as stated in the video, it causes some trauma and give difficulties in adjusting in new place. “The respect for different culture makes us resilient as a Filipino Nation” Indigenous people are always a target of people who experienced discrimination and harassment. We should recognize their role in environment protection and provide law for protecting them and their lands. We need public participation along with government support for it. As long we take them as our part and also wants to keep them happy we have to come forward , Awareness rallies, their contribution to country, respecting their culture and habits, inclusion of their leaders in wider decisions , all this will help in protecting the original people and protecting them from being extinct. As the world is developing, Indigenous people adapt and respect some changes that will benefit their life. Best example is the The Department of Education (DepEd), that gives assistance to indigenous people’s education that gives significance to their identities and promotes the value of the knowledge, abilities, and other characteristics of cultural heritage. It was a way for traditional indigenous skills and cultures to be preserved, retained and established. Training has been a crucial step in encouraging indigenous people to become more deeply active in their societies. It was an essential contribution for freedom and social justice to be accomplished.
