Description

12.11.2019 Professor Linda Longmire GS-108-01 Asia’s Kidney Black Market: Reaction Paper Asia has a Kidney Black market that thrives from locals being taken advantage of because they aren’t fully informed about what they are doing when they sign up to have a kidney taken away for money. The documentary is set in a undeveloped area in Nepal; where there are many different poor families that look for ways to bring money home and many times in these villages men and women sell kidneys to the black market. The documentary shows that the village commonly sells kidneys and many of the citizens have been victim of this kidney trade one way or another. Many of the men that had the kidney taken away regret going through with the operation because it created many different health issues that they did not know would occur from having one less kidney. As mentioned before traffickers of the kidneys use the vulnerability of the public in Nepal to obtain the many different kidney’s that they do. They continue to use manipulative money schemes to get the people to give there kidney up. The small community in Nepal is the main target because of the poverty that exists in this community. People are always looking for ways to earn money for their families and sometimes selling a kidney may look like the only option that some people have. In the documentary you are able to see the various scars that people have from having a kidney taken. Most of these wounds weren’t treated properly and could have easily resulted in a death because the kidneys where taken out barbarically. Then when the kidneys get taken the system has to be rigged to show that the donor is related to the

participant getting the kidney this is when another law is broken and fraud has be done to get it to look like you were related to the donor of the kidney. The documentary exposes a huge issue that exists across the entire world not just in Nepal. Many people could access the black market and obtain a kidney for a big price but it allows them to live a longer life while affecting the person’s life who gave up the kidney in the first place. The activity of selling a kidney is gruesome and has to be stopped with higher regulations being taken into account. We need to educate the public so that they know these people are bad people not trying to help people in need of a kidney, rather they want to earn a profit from a kidney that they stole from a person who was vulnerable and needed the cash to survive another day....
