Macquarie Business School ASSESSMENT GUIDE Unit: ACCG8121 Managerial Accounting Year and Session: 2021 Session 1 Unit Convener: Dr Lu Jiao Students in this unit MUST read the online Unit Guide carefully at the start of session and be aware of its contents throughout the session. The Unit Guide contains important information about the unit – if anything in the unit guide is unclear, please consult with the Unit Convener. This Assessment Guide provides significant additional detail regarding assessment and other learning related issues. Some items in the Unit Guide are inevitably re-stated in this Assessment Guide. It is important that you understand fully that, in the event that there is any difference in the way that this assessment guide states a matter and the way that the Unit Guide expresses the same matter, then the Unit Guide is to be regarded as being the official position of the Department.

15% 10% 15% 60% 100%

The final grade will be determined after consideration of performance in all aspects of the course.

Assessment task 1: In-class Question Submission (15%) The in-class Question submissions account for 15% of the final grade. This assessment task requires students to complete in-class questions and submit their typed answers for marking and feedback. The answers to five in-class questions will be randomly collected and marked out of 3. Each of the five submissions will be worth (3%) of the total assessment. The answers to the in-class questions must be submitted on iLearn via the Turnitin links provided within 20 minutes following the conclusion of your seminar. [THEREFORE PLEASE BRING YOUR LAPTOPs TO CLASS]. No extensions will be granted and a mark of ZERO will be awarded if the answers are not submitted. Students should note that the submissions made will be scanned by Turnitin for similarity. Assessment task 2: Online Quiz (10%) One online quiz will be conducted during Week 8. The online quiz will cover the first 7 weeks topics. Further information will be provided via announcements on the ilearn website. Assessment task 3: Excel Assignment (15%) Students are required to listen to an online lecture provided on the ilearn website regarding excel skills. The excel assessment task is available on ilearn. The assignment must be submitted by clicking on ‘submit excel assignment’ on the ilearn website. The assignment must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 14th May, 2021. For enquiries in relation to the excel assignment, please contact Ms Nicky Bull via [email protected]. More details about the excel assignment will be uploaded on ilearn during the session. Assessment task 4: Final examination (60%) A final examination is included as an assessment task for this unit to provide assurance that: i) the product belongs to the student and ii) ii) the student has attained the knowledge and skills tested in the exam. A final examination for this unit will be held during the University Examination period.

All material covered in the course will be examinable. Further details on the final exam will be made available via the unit website late in the session. The use of a dictionary in the final examination is not permitted. You are expected to present yourself for examination at the time and place designated in the University Examination Timetable. The timetable will be available in Draft form approximately eight weeks before the commencement of the examinations and in Final form approximately four weeks before the commencement of the examinations. http://www.timetables.mq.edu.au/exam The only exception to not sitting an examination at the designated time is because of documented illness or unavoidable disruption. In these circumstances you may wish to consider applying for Special Consideration. Information about unavoidable disruption and the special consideration process is available at: http://www.mq.edu.au/policy/docs/disruption_studies/policy.html If a Supplementary Examination is granted as a result of the Special Consideration application the examination will be scheduled as per the Supplementary Examination timetable of the Faculty. Please note that the supplementary examination will be of the similar format as the final examination. The Macquarie university examination policy details the principles and conduct of examinations at the University. The policy is available at: http://www.mq.edu.au/policy/docs/examination/policy.htm

Required Textbook Langfield-Smith, K., Thorne, H., Smith, D. and Hilton, H. (2018). Management Accounting, Information for Creating and Managing Value, 8th edition, McGraw-Hill Australia. Access to this text is essential for seminar references and for weekly assignment questions. There have been substantial changes from previous editions of the text so DO NOT RELY ON PREVIOUS EDITIONS. Delivery Students would have enrolled in a seminar, either face-to-face OR online. While in the timetable you are enrolled in a three hour class, these classes will consist of workshops of two hours duration. Students will then view (in their own time) a one hour online (see ilearn website) recorded lecture each week prior to the next weeks class e.g. in week 1 you have a two hour workshop and then must view the week 1 lecture prior to your week 2 class.
