Description

Design of a parking application and booking system for QUT.

Project purpose: The Queensland University of technology (QUT) has an ongoing problem surrounding their parking facilities for all of its users. Students, Staff & the general public that use the QUT parking facilities. This ongoing problem is that users of these car parks turnup to attend university or work only to find that there are no parks. The development and implementation of a necessary application that users must login pay and reserve a spot before leaving home. This is hopped to remove the frustration and disappoint of users arriving at QUT only to find no parks left. The project with included the design, implementation, training and necessary adjustments needed

The project Case: Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is currently faced with some major problems sounding their parking facilities. The current problem is that the supply for QUT parking cannot meet the demand. Now in most cases with a supply and demand problem you would just increase supply to match the demand. However, for QUT it is not that easier. They do not have the facilities, funding or space to build more parking facilities. However, to help with this problem they can better manage the issue with the introduction of ‘QUT SmartPark’. QUT SmartPark is a parking application that will better manage the parking facilities within QUT.

Milestones And constraints: With such a proposed project there are going to many miles stones to be met throughout the project.

TITLE: Project Manager: SCOPE:

SANDGATE LIBRARY PROJECT CHARTER QUTSmartPark Application Development & Implementation Mr Rory D. Frazer Currently the Queensland University of technology (QUT) has an ongoing problem surrounding their parking facilities. The purpose of this project is to implement a strategy to reduce congestion and driver frustration when parking with QUT. The project will include the implementation and training to rectify the current problem. Students, Staff & the general public that use the QUT parking facilities. This ongoing problem is that users of these car parks turnup to attend university or work only to find that there are no parks. The development and implementation of a necessary application that users must login pay and reserve a spot before leaving home. This is hopped to remove the frustration and disappoint of users arriving at QUT only to find no parks

left. The project with included the design, implementation, training and necessary adjustments needed BUSINESS CASE:

The current problem that QUT is faced with is the congestion and frustration that comes from their parking facilities. QUT gardens point is home to ……. Car parks. These car parks are available to students, Staff & the general public. The ongoing problem is that during peak times at QUT there is a large amount of congestion that builds up. When the car park is at its maximin capacity it works on a system of one-out-one-in. As a result of this it ends in very large lines of cars backed up creating all sorts of hazards. The purpose of this project is to produce and implement a software system that allows QUT’s users the convenience of parking within the QUT grounds while reducing congestion and frustration. Usually when you have a problem with supply and demand you would increase the one that is falling behind. In this case it is the supply that can’t meet the demand. However, QUT cannot just increase its parking facilities as they are limited with the current grounds and would be very costly to increase underground parking. That’s why the development and implementation of a software that monitors and controls the facilities. The name of the project is Called ‘QUTSmartPark’. Which is an application that will be available for anyone QUT parking user. Its key principle will be to allow users to book, pay and allocate parks within QUT’s parking facilities and avoid the frustration of queuing for a carpark. This will allow the users the security of a park by logging on and reserving an available park before leaving home.

The overal project will include not only the development of such application and softwear system but it will also include the training of staff, manufacturing of specialised number plate recognition cameras and a 6-month free of charge technician for all of the little teething problems. SCOPE OF IN SCOPE OUT OF SCOPE WORK: Office buildings Software systems Temporary Fencing Building Materials Organisation of meetings DELIVERABLES: The project is to deliver a state-of-the-art parking application along with all of the hardware to implement it. This will include the supporting software programs need to make the application as well as well as the software to run it while implemented. Seven new state of the art number plate recognition cameras will be installed, as well as 2 computers and training for QUT security to manage and use the new

parking system. ASSUMPTIONS:  It is the assumption that the development and installation will be a smooth process  All milestones delivery dates will be met on time in order to ensure the project is completed for its delivery date  That the project won’t go over budget  It is assumed that there is the potential for the project to come in under budget  It is the assumption that the global pandemic won’t have an impact on the project  It is assumed that weather won’t have an impact on the project CONSTRAINTS:  A constraint that we are faced with in today’s world is the unknown future of the current global pandemic.  Contractors not providing their service on time  Management of the parking facilities while the change is taking place  Team members becoming unwell resulting in a delay in milestones  The total amount budgeted for the project being ….  Software malfunction issues
