Alterations in Health (Diagnosis)
Pathophysiology Related to Client Problem Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways characterized by recurring symptoms, airway obstruction, bronchial hyperresponsiveness and an underlying inflammation process.
-Impaired breathing pattern -Ineffective airway clearance -Ineffective health management
21 REVIEW MODULE CHAPTER ___________
Health Promotion and Disease Prevention -Regular visits to the HCP to evaluate therapeutic response and revise plan of care if needed -Education. environmental control -Pharmacological Management
ASSESSMENT
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
Risk Factors
Expected Findings
-Exercise -Allergens -Colds and infections -Irritants i.e. Tobacco smoke, wood smoke, odors, sprays
-Wheezing -Breathlesness -Chest tightness -Cough esp. at night or in the early morning -Dyspnea
Laboratory Tests -Sputum Test
Diagnostic Procedures
-Provide oxygen therapy and corticosteroids as prescibed -Monitor child closely for relief of respiratory distress and signs of side effects (e.g. nasal flaring, tachypnea, retractions) -Continious cardiorespiratory monitoring (e.g. auscultation of air movement, BP monitoring) -Comforting the child and making the sure the child is not left alone during this stressfull time.
Therapeutic Procedures -Breathing Exercises -Physical Training -Prevent exacerbations by avoiding triggers, allergens, and using medications as needed
ACTIVE LEARNING TEMPLATES
-Avoiding allergens, triggers, and smoke -Infection prevention
-History and Physical Examination -Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) -Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PFR)
PATIENT-CENTERED CARE
Nursing Care
-Use of Nebulizer
Complications Medications -Albuterol (short acting beta adrenergic agonist) -Salmeterol (LABAs - long acting Beta 2 agonist) -Epinephrine
Client Education -How to use a nebulizer -Educating on what could trigger the asthma and how to avoid those triggers -Importance of medication and how to take it to prevent, control, and manage asthma
Interprofessional Care -HCP
-Corticosteroids
-Allergist / Immunologist -Respiratory Therapist
-Death -Respiratory failure -Bronchial constriction -Respiratory Infection...
