BILINGUALISM

Being bilingual has been an enormous benefit in my life. It allowed me to become a dependable source when it comes to the occupation. I was able to have more opportunities. It was easier when I learned new languages because I understand different grammar structures. I can help other people with a language barrier between Korean and English language. Looking back, it was challenging to grow up as a bilingual child, but it has benefited me in many ways. More so, being bilingual has assisted me in interacting with diverse groups of people in America and thus understood well the nuances attached to the English speakers' culture. I have developed relationships with a lot of allies in the United States, thus expanding my hobbies. I have also developed the comprehension of their foreign music, literature, among other related hobbies. Cultural knowledge of both the English Speakers and the Koreans has right away been part of me. Travelling has also been easy and enjoyable for me when visiting countries that embrace the languages above mentioned. I have had opportunities of not being limited to too many expensive restaurants while on tour but instead through interaction realizing cheaper places where to enjoy myself without interruptions. I have been existing in many forms because of bilingualism and thus having a different view of the world. I have many characters that fit my bilingual aspect because of the sense that I feel to be a different person apart from my default culture. I have also experienced a diversity in self-perception because I am bilingual. Being bilingual has also advanced my brain functions and ability to perform psychological roles. I have been more successful in life as compared to my fellow friends who are monolingual. My problem-solving skills have been verified by many and in different circumstances as compared to my colleagues. Choosing words that I speak has always given me pleasure because when I meet with Koreans, it has been comfortable with me as well as mingling

with English speakers. Distractions have been blocked by default through my bilingual nature. Decision making on my side has been in an upgraded aspect as I thus think big from continuous speaking of both languages in question. An added advantage to me is that the use of a foreign language has brought about emotional distance by allowing me to focus on the information rather than relying on my emotions. I have grown to realize that the impacts of bilingualism are life-long. To expand on the statement, at my elderly age, now I feel so adaptive to new environments with ease. I no more strain because I experience cognitive flexibility. It is the profound potential of adopting and being part and parcel of unfamiliar circumstances. Research has it that bilingualism advances cognition alongside delay dementia (Fritz, 2016). I am therefore assured of a lifelong intelligence and reading capabilities. It is said that the onset of the effects of Alzheimer's disease can be delayed by bilingualism. It is verified that the signs of the disease don't show full results on bilinguals. The features entail brain loss, planning, and also problem-solving potential. In conclusion, the benefits attached to bilingualism can never be discussed thoroughly in short contexts. It has a whole world of advantages and merits. When someone is bilingual, they experience both social, economic, political, psychological, emotional, and practical benefits. You thus become a fully equipped kit in life. It is therefore advised that each and everyone in the globe finds a way that they learn a new language apart from their default language to have a different perspective of life.
