Description

Human Population and Toxins Resource There are different perspectives on human population growth and the dynamics associated with population change. Go to CIA World Factbook website (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/theworld-factbook/rankorder/2119rank.html) and choose one developed (not the United States) and one developing country and compare the following and answer the questions: Developed country (Developed country is a country which has an effective rate of industrialization and individual income)

Developing country (Developing country is a country which has slow rate of industrialization and low per capita income)

Population growth rate

0.19 %

2.55%

Birth rate

8.6 births/ 1,000 population

30.4 births/ 1,000 population

Death rate

10.4 deaths/ 1,000 population.

3.8 deaths/ 1,000 population

Net migration rate

3.7 migrant(s) / 1,000 population

-1.2 migrant(s)/ 1,000 population

Each question should be answered in a minimum of 200 words. 1. Why do you think the population is increasing or decreasing for that country? Try to explain at least two reasons as to why this is happening? (Please refer to your textbook) According to the text book the increase and or decrease of a population is effect by accumulation of factors. These factors can range from the increase of women having more children or the population can decrease by the amount of people dying. Having the birthday rate increase help the population grow and develop. When families are larger there a bigger need for things such as food, water, housing and much more. War is an example of why a country may have a decrease in population. Many countries are at war around the world which results in massive hardship and leave countries left to struggle and rebuild. In many well-developed countries such as Italy people usually don’t have children for many different reasons, and since © 2018. Grand Canyon University. All Rights Reserved.

education and the wealth is higher in these countries, the birth rates are lower leading to a decrease in population. Many countries are focus on supply and demand in order to keep up with society so families are smaller. Developing countries such as Iraq on the other hand, tend to have higher birth rates than death rates which leads to an increase in population. Most people in developing counties tend to have more children and families tend to be larger; as well as no higher education and most people are poor. 2. How do diseases affect the population? Can you think about any diseases that has affected the human population? (Please use peer reviewed sources to support your answer).

iseases happen to aect the populaon in ways such as the infant mortality rate, crude birth and death rates, the rate of natural increase, the total ferlity rate, the life expectancy and the rate of populaon growth. A disease that has aected the human populaon previously has been Leprosy. This was a © 2018. Grand Canyon University. All Rights Reserved.

disease spoken about in dierent parts of the bible as well in which Jesus has healed those with this disease. This disease has two principal forms as Lepromatous and Tuberculoid. Both of these start with the discoloraon of the skin usually on the brow, nose, ear, cheek or chin. The Lepromatous type can spread widely in many direc ons, and in some cases can become © 2018. systemac and involve the internal organs as well. This is a long-lasng disease and untreated the sickness can last ten to twenty years. The tuberculoid type isn’t quite as severe and untreated cases usually only last one to three years. One interes ng thing about both of these cases is that they have recurrent periods of exacerbaon and © 2018. Grand Canyon University. All Rights Reserved.

subsidence. During the periods of exacerbaon, these cases suer fever, pain and prostraon. These Fare ups may last for hours, days, or weeks. When these Fare ups occurred is when they are most contagious Diseases tend to spread quickly and affect a large amount of people at the same time; most diseases are deadly, and they affect the population in a great deal. For example, the Swine flu epidemic of 2009 effected the population of over 206 countries over 6,250 individuals died from it affecting the population of these counties (Mishra 2018). Many other diseases like the H1N1 influenza that accrued in the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic killing over 30 million people worldwide effecting the population of the human race entirely, and countless other diseases and viruses that affected the population over the years like the West Nile virus, the Lyme disease, thez oonotic disease and HIV/AIDS, etc (Gholipour 2013). The close thing to the Spanish flue is what we have going on right now the COVID-19 that has effect a tremendous amount of people worldwide. People may be affect by the dieses its self and or the economy hardship. It said to be the largest number of people who filed for unemployed in history. Whether it may be the swine flu, Spanish flu and or the COVID-19 there are so many dieses that have affect families. It has affected families emotionally, physically, and mentally. 3. Looking at the countries you compared, what are the toxins present in the environment that impact human health? Provide one example for each country. There develop countries I chose is Italy. There is a constant issue with development of toxic waste pollution the environment. People are illegally dumping toxic waste all over the country which results in the harm of living organism in the whole country of Italy. Toxic waste is a huge © 2018. Grand Canyon University. issue and there needs to be a proper way to either recycle waste or properly get rid of it. The statics have increases tremendously in breast cancer as well. Statistics have shown an increase in breast and colorectal cancer in 2012 nearly 34,000 and 22,000 frequent cases accrued in women and men which increases the causes of death overall (Mazza 2015) The developing country I chose is Iraq. History has shown much conflict within this country. Thousands of people died and many wounded; destroying many towns to waste and hurting woodland and ecosystems. War has left this country to have to constantly rebuild its self over and over again. The government system was corrupted as a result which lead to the neglecting of the environment causing harm to the health of the people who live there (Zwijnenburg 2017). Many families are left broken and trying to recover because the pollution and destruction of war.
