The graphic novels illustrates why Smirnov wants the powerful to face their consequences through Ivo Statoc. When Blacksad points a gun at Ivo Statoc, and Ivo Statoc believed that he could win Blacksad with a hundred thousand dollars(Guarnidos and Canales 47). Ivo Statoc was so confident that Blacksad would not be able to pull the trigger for he had conscience, something that the rich Ivo Statoc did not have for her knew that he could pay his way out of trouble, that his life would not be affected. In the panels of page 49, Ivo Statoc moves closer towards Blacksad’s gun and maintains direct eye contact with him. Ivo Statoc’s actions demonstrates that he genuinely believes that he will not be murdered....
