PAG-IBIG SA TINUBUANG BAYAN BY: ANDRES BONIFACIO  In many of the works this is entitled Pag-Ibig sa “Tinubuang Lupa” not bayan but lupa That is why it is being mistaken to be a work of Marcelo H Del Pilar. This is the translation of Marcelo H Del Pilar about El Amor Patrio by Jose Rizal  This is a rare copy that was discovered in the Archivo General Militar de Madrid in Caja 5677, leg 1.94 bucks  These are part of the confiscated documents from the Katipunan  You can see very clearly; Pag-Ibig sa Tinubuang ‘Bayan’  However this Pag-Ibig sa Tinubuang Bayan was given up on Pag-Ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa from the first source that we have in 1935 by Jose P Santos in his work: Si Andres Bonifacio at ang Himagsikan  Content wise, they are they are very much the same  This is where you will find some of the best stanzas or lines of that work of Andres Bonifacio

PAG-IBIG SA TINUBUANG LUPA EXCERPTS 

In the first stanza here you will be able to apply some of the teachings on nationalism that I have given to you in the form of lecture and in the form of PowerPoint and even in the point of PDF This is the first stanza that will call the Filipino nationalism, and this is the Bonifacio’s Nationalism This type of nationalism that was described by Theodoro Agoncilo It's a kind of a very strong feeling a strong feeling that is purified in order for you to show that noble love and that Noble love can be expressed as you offer that love to your country Does if you will read it “Aling pag-ibig pa ang hihigit kaya sa pagkadalisay at pagkadakila gaya ng pagibig sa tinubuang lupa? Alin pag-ibig pa? Wala na nga, wala. For our second stanza and this tells us the kind of nationalism that is growing from the heart of the poor people a

As inspired according to Theodoro Agoncillo, this type of nationalism was from the nationalism of Jose Rizal h Here we can make a deduction or analysis that Bonifacio was inspired by Jose Rizal nationalism There are many things that brought this type of nationalism here in our country. This made the Filipinos aware (Stanza 1) made them aware that even if they are poor, even poorest of the poor, once they have this kind of love for their country they will become respected and they will become great in their country Thus if we don't we're going to read it “Banal na pagibig pag ikaw ang nukal sa tapat na puso ng sino’t alinman, imbit taong gubat, maralita’t mangmang Nagiging dakila at ginagalang”. The use of the Tagalog Language became very common during the time because this is one way of making everyone understand the kind of message that they want to send across to people It can just be imagine not all are good in Spanish during that time but if we give our authors, our Patriots or writers, will be using Tagalog, then that will be very much understandable to common people, very ordinary people kahit hindi nakapagaral, maiintindihan sila. This type of nationalism was our aggressive nationalism as our response to colonialism as you will see Thus even if we claim that Andres Bonifacio was not educated he was well read he was very much affected by the period of liberalism Kahit hindi nakapag-aral , he can express that kind of nationalism in his home Look at his stanza, he was already fighting the Spaniards He was very much aware what this colonialism The reaction is hatred, hatred to this colonizer Mangyari kayang ito’y masulyap ng mga Tagalog at hindi lumingap sa naghihingalong Inang nasa yapak ng kasuklam-suklam na Castilang hamak. This next stanza will tell you how big is that love and how much can you give for that love This is the kind of nationalism being promoted and even in the discussions or lecture that we have about nationalism, this nationalism is the best expression and how you can bring your country to the best of life Ipaghandog-handog ang buong pag-ibig hanggang sa mga dugo’y ubusang itangis kung sa pagtatanggol, buhay ay mapatid Ito’y kapalaran at tunay na langit This is a common idea to many Filipino heroes during the 19th century

The willingness to offer life, the willingness to shed blood is very common to many of our heroes  Even General Gregorio del Pilar will say it's heaven to die for their country  Even Jose Rizal in his last four will say it is sweet to die Murir esdencansar. You will find it in Mi Ultimo Adios KARTILYA NG KATIPUNAN BY EMILLIO JACINTO  Kartilya was written by Emilio Jacinto, a known protege of Andres Bonifacio  He was just about 18 years old when he followed Bonifacio everywhere for he look up to Kya Andres  He was never able to finish his studies in UST, he had a chance to be in UST, but do not have the money to finish and agree and yet you will see here in the brilliance of this 18 year old man

Filipino realize that we are equal in all aspects of life even in religion



KARTILYA   

Kartilya was the do's and don'ts of the Katipuneros This tells them what not to do and what to do in terms of their principles and their teaching The Kartilya Context will tell you the influence of 1 very effective doctrine during the time, very influential, and that is what you call Freemasonry

 INFLUENCES OF KARTILYA  I would want to emphasize the influences of Kartilya  First, this is the first document that will tell the Filipinos that we are all Born Free and we are equal to everyone.  This equality will be extended to the term Brethren

Kartilya also tells us that we have to get out of our bad habits We should understand the bad effect of exploitation or oppression There is also a document that will show how Filipinos respected women, long before there is right up suffrage for women that was given only in 1935 to us But prior to that, kinikilala na ng mga Pilipino that women are there equal. That women are not their plating but their health made and that she should be protected and must be treated as equal of men Another beautiful teaching of the Kartilya is about word of honor The word of honor was taken from the very teaching of a respectable writer known as Cervantes

This is in a way make us aware, not only as of today, but even katipuneros during the time, that they have to consider that time is gold They have to take action and not waste time in order to get their independence Emillo Jacinto also adapted the teaching of Jose Rizal in the character of Simoun in the Novel El Filibusterismo

Jose Rizal in that particular novel described that “Life must be used to it fullest, because a wasted life is a useless life”



It was in a way telling us do not waste the chance to give something good to our fellow man

In the form of methapor, that was modified by Emillo Jacinto to the idea that life which is not consecrated to a lofty and sacred cost was compared to a tree without shade, if not a poisonous weed. This means that you have to live according to your purpose. Live a life that is purpose driven Lagyan mo ng halaga ‘yang buhay mo, lagyan mo ng direksyon. Bawat isa sa atin, ay may papel na gagampanan sa buhay. Parang puno, ano ang purpose ng puno? Lumilim. Kung ang puno na ito’y hindi nakakapagbigay lilim katulad ito ng tao na walang silbi They are encouraging that a man should be into great idea, in order for him to be observe this to the greater good

DASALAN AT TOCSOHAN BY MARCELO H. DEL PILAR  It can be interpreted as prayers and jokes or prayers and temptation  It was written by Marcello H Del Pilar  The picture that you are seeing is from a private collection and you cannot find it in the net. That's how Dasalan at Tocsohan looks like  This Dasalan at Tocsohan use prayers and teachings of the priest in the form of a parody  Others look at it as very rude but others look at it as simply a joke  That was the creativity applied by Marcelo H Del Pilar in his work  When priest read it, they're not happy about that rudeness. They felt very uncomfortable in knowing that the prayers was rudely treated by Marcelo H Del Pilar PARODY  If you open the book, this is how youre gonna be seeing it, especially the prayer, Our Father which was one that was ridiculed by Marcelo H Del Pilar  You will have in the first bullet a good definition of parody referring into a literary work that is imitated but with the effect of ridiculing  According to Father John Schumacher, the work of Marcelo H Del Pilar was really a show of the mastery of Del Pilar in the Tagalog language  We are emphasizing the role of the local tongue, in order to gain more readers and in order to gain more followers  It may be absurd, it may be exaggerated, but Marcelo H del pilar succeeded in inviting more readers from the lowest class and from the middle class  This particular practice of ridiculing and making fun of something or of a person what's a common practice during that time

Understand it from the point of view of a historian Professor Victorio Torres in his work “Laughter of Dissent” He gave a lecture of how can Filipino find a way to laugh or smile or even to joke even if they are not happy with what is going on especially in the political condition Today, it's more a political convention, but during the Marcelo H Del Pilar's time, it's a combination of the religion and political opposition The latter of dissent is all Filipinos took things lightly in the form of jokes by simply laughing of it or making fun of it or by simply joking at it Despite of the joke, we can be enlightened to the real score or to the real situation of political events in the Philippines of the time

MODERN POLITICAL MEMES- IMAGE, TEXT AND VIDEO  Dasalan and Tocsohan is very similar to today's political memes  We are seeing a lot of memes images and even text and videos talking about political situation in the country  In fact, it all started became very popular during the time of Joseph Estrada, when he was a President  He came out in a book, siya na mismo , he came out with a book entitled Eraption and you will see here the he was the bat of joke pertaining to his English; how to speak English without really trial. It is grammatically wrong but it click to the people and from then on, we had a lot of this particular cartoons that show us this laughter of dissent which was the style adapted in the Dasalan at Tocsohan by Marcelo H Del Pilar  You can see the call of President Estrada to stop fighting, and he said “Sumuko na kayo” and they said “di kami susuko kung di mon a ispell ang ceasefire”. Sagot niya, “*nagmura siya*, Ay, tuloy nalang ang gera!”. The message is he cannot spell ceasefire. 

ANG DAPAT MABATID NG MGA TAGALOG BY: ANDRES BONIFACIO  It is written by Agapito Bagumbayan, and its is pen name of Andres Bonifacio  Here's a copy from San Juan Museum of the entire essay  This is once again a call for nationalism  Though it was questioned because they were not so certain about the fact that baka hindi ito gawa ni Andres Bonifacio  But somehow within the said essa, you will find a very good way of explaining to the people why nationalism should be in the hearts of the Filipinos  This work talks about how Legaspi started it all, as he colonized our country  The work talks about a lot of treachery, wrong teachings, given by Spain making the Filipinos blind from all the exploitation and abuse is that we have experiences FACTS TO REMEMBER  First in the essay was an indication that an Andres Bonifacio was mentioning prior to the coming of the Spaniards, we have our civilization we have been doing our trading  The trader that he mentioned was our relationship with the Japanese traders but that is really true  Though we traded with Southeast Asia, we traded also with Chinese, but we also do our trading with Japan  The promise of Legaspi, that he will be ruling the country Pacto de Sangre was never fulfilled. Pacto de Sangre  It is a blood compact between Legaspi and Cicatuna.

Bonifacio was saying that the former piece that we are enjoying was gone because of the coming of the Spaniards Thus, in this particular paragraph you will see his longings for that Ngayon wala ng maituturing na kapanatagan sa ating pmayanan; ngayon lagui ng guinagambala ang ating katahimikan ng umaalingawngaw na daing at pananambitan. He was calling for reason Huwag natin sayangin ang panahon sa pag-asa sa ipinangakong pinanghahawakan na di darating at mangyayari



This is the period of enlightenment.



Panahun na ngayong dapat na lumitaw ang liwanag ng katotohanan; panahon ng dappat nating ipakilala na tayo’y may sariling pagdaramdam, may puri, may hiya at pagdadamayan



This was a beautiful call of Andres Bonifacio to make everyone to wake up, to be enlighten. We are the same to the Spaniards and other people. We have our feelings, our honor, our shame. Cooperate, we should help one another. Thus, in your last paragraph, he said “Let us open our eyes, don’t be blink let us use our energy” Like what I have been discussing to you in nationalism that the best expression of nationalism to protect national interest is to put together the energy of the people Kaya anong sabi niya? “Kaya! Oh mga kababayan! Ating idilat ang bulag na kaisipan at kusang igugol sa kagalingan ang ating lakas sa tunay at lubos na oag-asa na may tagumpay sa nilalayong kaguinhawahan ng bayang tinubuan”.

WATCHWORDS  This will make us aware that Filipinos, though far from Europe, had received all these beautiful teachings but they are familiar with the words that are circulating during the time. o Liberty or Kalayaan  Filipino is very much aware of Liberty of Kalayaan o Lahat ng tao’y magkakapantay o Equality  Which was described in Tagalog as pagkakapantay pantay ng tao o Kayong lahat ay magkakapatid or Fraternity  Fraternity is Brotherhood or Kapatiran as described in the work of Bonifacio as well

If you are going to pick up liberty, equality, fraternity and put them side by side then you are already identifying the very model of the French Revolution For further teaching of the 19th century, here you will find some of those words used in the Dapat Mabatid ng mga Tagalog o katuiwiran or use of reason that I just mentioned a while ago





o the one thing to have progress or kagalingan o the whole for enlightenment or kalinawagan We are not new to this words as it all started to be absorbed by our reformists and they were all handed down to our revolutionist Thus, Katipunan with that, will be the most energized expression of nationalism in the Philippines
