To prepare students to take the National Counselor Exam (NCE), which is a multiple-choice exam with a time limit, and which state licensure boards use as a determining factor for licensure.

7. What happens if you do not successfully complete the comprehensive exam after 3 attempts? If a student fails to pass the CPCE and the Integration Exam after three attempts, the student cannot graduate with his or her master’s degree in the licensure track. Instead, he or she may choose to apply to the human services program to obtain a M.A. Human Services degree.

8. What is the minimal GPA required for graduation from a licensure program? The minimum GPA required for graduation is a cumulative GPA of 3.0. 9. How many courses are you allowed to repeat? A graduate student in a licensure program can repeat only two courses that will replace the original grade. 10. What is the policy for you, as an online student, to appeal a grade received in a course? An online student can appeal a grade only if the assigned grade conflicts with one or more of the following: 

The grade reflected on the grading rubrics for each assignment,

The grade reflected in email or announcements for each assignment, and/or

A calculation error occurs on one or more assignments that result in a different grade than expected.

11. What is the procedure/process for you, as an online student, to appeal a grade received in a course? Once the student establishes the need for an appeal, he or she must submit the appeal to the professor first. If this does not resolve the issue, the student may submit an appeal to the Online Chair via Liberty University (LU) Online Advising within 30 calendar days of the last day of the term. The appeal must include the appeal form and any documentation pertinent to the case. The Online Chair will give the decision to LU Online Advising, who will notify the student. If this does not resolve the issue, and the student has additional supporting documentation, the student may submit a written appeal including the additional documentation to the Online Associate Dean via LU Online Advising within five business days of the Online Chair’s decision. The Online Associate Dean will review the appeal and any documentation from the professor, and will pass the decision to the student via LU Online Advising. If the issue remains unresolved as per the student, he or she may choose to provide any further supporting documentation and appeal form to the Online Academic Dean via LU Online Advising within five business days of the Online Associate Dean’s decision. The Online Academic Dean will review documentation from the student and the professor, and will respond with a final decision to the student via LU Online Advising. The student cannot appeal the decision of the Online Academic Dean.

12. What are the limitations of faculty and student interactions? Faculty may provide students with any principles, guidance, and recommendations on a professional basis only. In other words, faculty can provide counseling to the student only as long as it pertains to a student-client setting. They cannot enter into any dual relationships with any student. 13. To successfully complete the counseling program at Liberty University and be eligible for graduation, you must be able demonstrate proficiency in what 4 areas? 

Scholastic competency based on the comprehensive exam and maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA,

Acquiring and applying counseling skills within a diverse population and from a standard acceptable to the licensed professional counseling community,

Exhibiting emotional and mental stability, and mature interaction with others; maintaining healthy boundaries with clients; communicating appropriately with others; managing personal anxiety and discomfort successfully; collaborating with others successfully; and resolving any interpersonal conflicts successfully. Showing proficiency of the above through interactions with faculty, staff, clients, administrators, other students, supervisors, etc. both verbally in person, and in written communication.

14. What are the policies regarding email communication? Students should check their email at least once daily. Students are to communicate with faculty, staff, advisors, and anyone else associated with LU, including fellow students, in a professional manner at all times. Because you cannot see facial expressions or other body language, it is really easy to misimterpret the tone within the email; therefore, it is extremely important to avoid responses that may seem sarcastic or angry. Communicate directly with those you have complaints with, and not with everyone in the class. Allow the person time to respond before jumping to erroneous conclusions. Do not use offensive language, ever. Act ethically and professionally even in email communication....
