Description

The written assignment given brings light to the accounting field in a different way. It asked us to study a various accounting career path that we would be interested in exploring. For this effort, I choose to become a Forensic Accountant. I choose this career path because I enjoy investigating and at the same time, accounting. As a result, I am able to make use of both of those skills and hobbies to contribute to various support applications. For example, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners explained that Forensic Accountants give their skills in various litigation support and investigative accounting settings. (ACFE, n.d.) The job of a Forensic Accountant in particular has several various aspects. They performs forensic research to trace funds and identify assets for recovery. They also conduct forensic analysis of financial data and prepare forensic accounting reports from financial findings among other responsibilities. (i.e. preparing analytical data for litigation and testifies as needed.) (ACFE, n.d.) A Certified Fraud Examiner’s Certificate holder may receive salaries from Eighty Thousand Dollars ($80,000.00)per annum to One Hundred and Forty- Seven Thousand Dollars($147,000.00) per annum. The average annual salary for a Certified CFE is around One Hundred and Four Thousand – Five Hundred Dollars ($104,500.00). A non CFE Holder can receive a minimum of Fifty Seven Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Six Dollars ($57,796.00) to One Hundred and Twenty Five Thousand Dollars ($125,000.00) and a median wage of Eighty Two Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty Eight Dollars ($82,938.00). (ACFE, n.d.) The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts 13% job growth for accountants and auditors by 2022. The growth of all forensic accounting jobs should correspond with this rate, if not exceed it due increasing financial regulations, with some estimates predicting a 20% growth in demand for investigative auditors. (Staff Writers, 2021) Advantages Forensic Accounting can:  Aid in finding solutions for financial crimes by gathering information that are sometimes used in detecting and identifying crimes.  Assist in monitoring professionals to ensure that no unethical practices occur.  Help business with their finances identifying any non recorded drawing or any other deviations from the accounting concepts. Disadvantages Forensic Accounting can:  Be Time consuming. In many instances, reviewing all source documents can be tedious and can take several days, or months to complete reviewing.  Be Expensive. Due to the fact that it is a lengthy process, forensic accounting can turn out to be costly; that’s if you’re not a corporation.

 

Be Distracting. It can cause deviation from productivity forcing accountants to work in between regular staff. Also it can affect employee morale. Its not like employees mostly understand why forensic accountants are brought in. It can cause a decrease sense of morale. (Editor in Chief, 2017)
