THE CACEE FORM CPA RECRUITMENT

GUIDEBOOK ASPER CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM

THE CACEE FORM - WORKBOOK

WHAT IS A CACEE FORM? A CACEE forms is a standardized application form for on-campus recruiting, developed by the Canadian Association of Career Educations and Employers (CACEE).

WHY USE A CACEE FORM? CPA firms use the CACEE form as a standard application form. The CACEE form gives employers the same information that would be presented in a resume and cover letter, but in a standardized format which makes it easier to screen applications. The first and most important purpose of the CACEE form is to answer the question: "Is this someone I want to interview?" The second role of the CACEE form is to give the firm's representatives some questions to ask you in the interview. If you were the captain of the volleyball team at school, for example, they can ask you about that—how did it help you develop team skills? How did you deal with conflict?

GENERAL INFORMATION • • • • • •

Be sure to complete all sections of the CACEE form. Research the firm. Find out their core values. What do they specialize in? Recognize that every CACEE form should be customized for each firm. Don't submit one generic form for every firm. The CACEE form should be typed and not handwritten. Spell check and proof read carefully before submitting Save a copy of each application and label appropriately (ie. “Chris Smith - Deloitte CACEE Form”). Just in case you need to submit an additional copy or you find a last minute error.

Use this workbook as a tool to help get you started on building a draft of the key pieces of your CACEE form. There are examples in this booklet that will help you to start thinking about what to include.

When writing your skill statements, briefly cover your responsibilities and skills developed and focus on your accomplishments and the contributions you made in the role. Accomplishments showcase potential. If you added value through your actions at one organization, it is likely you will do so at your next position. Recruiters love to see a pattern of solid performance. Use numbers, percentages, and dollars whenever possible to quantify your statements. For example: BEFORE: Organized a university social. AFTER: Organized the 10th annual Commerce Halloween Social for 3,000 students with an operating budget of $65,000. Build in your success whenever you can. If you don’t tell them how successful you are they may never know. “Successfully managed the largest volunteer drive for…………….” Avoid starting your statements with “responsible for” and never use “I” or “my” in your skill statements.
