Anthony Aguilar ISQS 5331 6/6/2018 Case Module 1 I. Why does Facebook's data center specialist argue that "The Internet is not a cloud?" The data center specialist mentons that the internet is not a cloud because, in his own words, it is "a physical building" and anyone would be able to see the miles and miles of cable that connects it. Upon looking at the locaton of Facebook's datacenter in Prineville- Oregon, I would agree with the specialist, it is easy to forget that all this data must be stored anywhere, but once we actually take a look at the locaton and the vast space it takes, resembles less of a cloud and more of a concrete fortress of informaton. II. What are some of the techniques Facebook uses to cool its data centers? They use a state of the art seven room roof top natural air conditoning system. This means that they mix cool air from the outside (high plains of Oregon) with warmer air, in order to regulate the temperature inside the facility. On the other hand, humidity is controlled by a fne automated mist that channels the breeze to the back of the servers in other to prevent them from overheatng. Finally, any excess warm air is pushed out by gigantc fans, which fnally concludes the ventlaton process. III. Based on the case writeup, explain how cloud computng will afect data centers and their power demands over the next ten years. The increasing growth of cloud computng will accelerate the accelerate data center power consumpton, meaning that the demand for more and more power will increase exponentally. This not only means that more storage and more cooling systems need to be implemented, but it calls for a more efcient and ecologically conscious method of generatng power. In the write up it was mentoned that the growing power demands will match or exceed the carbon emissions of the airline industry by 2020, an statstc that is alarming and should be taken care of....
