Case: Leaf in Creek (Retail Layout and Atmospherics) Case Prompt: Help us design our retail space. Team #:

Team Name: Khyra Jones

Section: 1

Make Leaf in Creek a shopping “experience” for customers. Decide on retail atmospheric elements to help bring the feel of the outdoors inside. Also plot the layout of the store and departments (see Case Overview for details).

Strategy Overview Explain the overall strategy of your store layout and design. Which type of retail layout (grid, racetrack, etc.) did you choose, and why? I chose to use a free-flow layout for the store. I chose this layout because I am able to set the store however I want to get the beachy outdoors retail experience that the client wants to convey. I am also combining it with a race track/loop layout. So people can take a desired path but also branch out if they want.

Strategy Analysis How does your store layout promote each of the requirements listed by the client? My layout makes it so that customers can look at merchandise as they make Flow through Store their way down to back of the store. There are two possible paths so that the How does your layout promote store does not become crowded. flow through store?

Shopping How will your layout facilitate ease of finding items?

Security How will your layout help employees keep an eye on shopping in the store?

The departments are set up so that similar items are besides each other. The clothing is all up front so that people looking for trendy clothes can be enticed in. The checkout station is towards the back of the store, but in the middle, so that the employees can have a clear view of the store.

An Experience How will your design create an “experience” for the customer?

The customer will be able to travel the loop layout and discover new items.
