1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This paper is focus on a case study of the chosen company, Kafe C. For this purpose, I have an interview session with the owner of the cafe about the company information and do SWOT analysis. Learning the current condition of strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats can help a development in business strategies. After an interview session, it is found out that this particular company is having few problems. In this written report has stated the explanation of the issues as well as the solutions that may help the business. Most of the solutions provided were related to the use of technologies that were associated with the new era, focusing the use of technologies.

2.0 COMPANY INFORMATION 2.1 Company Background Kafe C is located between Block C and Block D of Kolej Matrikulasi Kelantan, Selising Pasir Putih, Kelantan. Kafe C have been established on year 2018. This restaurant opens every day from 6:30 am to 11:00 pm which focuses on breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their main target market is students of matriculation. The cafe was ran by Puan Salihah or known as Mama and her husband. Before start focussing in selling food in Kafe C, they make a catering service from home. The company is being registered with number 201803032558 (KT0405548-K).

2.3 Products and services This cafe serves around 10 different of foods to students such as Ayam Masak Merah, Butter Milk Chicken, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Kerabu and more. There are also many types of drinks available for customer to choose. This cafe also uses selfservice which is customers just take whatever foods that they want to eat at the table of food section and pay at the counter then they can enjoy their dishes.

2.4 Business, marketing, operational strategy Kafe C offering price that affordable by students ranging from RM1.00 to RM5.00. To producing tasty food, they ensure to cook delicious food by using high quality raw material. For the unspecialized food types, the foods are purchased from trusted and specialized supplier. Kafe C also conduct market survey by ask the students and customers regarding feedback of foods produced while analysing the sale generated whether increased or vice versa. For each comments received, owner will analyse whether the improvement worth it or not. Next, Kafe C also contact with their customers. Mama involved in interacting with customers (students and staffs) to ensure their satisfaction achieved. Mama also ensure her staffs entertain the customers, so that the customers feel appreciated while enhancing public relation. Instead of producing variety of foods, Mama focus on producing complete dish consisting of nasi + fried chicken or tomato chicken + veggies which need low cost but high profit return.

2.5 Financial Achievement In the past 2 years ago, Kafe C have gained tremendous amount of profit. However due to reduction of students’ number in Kolej Matrikulasi Kelantan because of pandemic, the profit has decreased by 40%. Nowadays, her net profit by day is around RM 3000 per day. The basic salary offered for the workers is about RM1200 to RM1500 depending on their job description.

Based on the table above, it shown a SWOT analysis of Kafe C which has described their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Strength is the characteristic of the business or project that give an advantage over others. From Kafe C, their strengths are having a good communication with customers and selling foods with affordable price. Basically, public relation is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organization and their publics. Having a good communication is a very important things in order to attract customers. Next, since Kafe C is focus to students, so the price of the food is started from RM1.00 until RM5.00. The price is very negotiable and affordable to purchase by college students. Even though they have their strengths, they also have their weaknesses which are customers need to wait in long duration and the did not recognize technology as a tool to improve their business. The customers need to wait because sometimes the food is not ready yet, which in process because of lack of kitchen tools. The owner of the cafe did not know the use of technology in the business because she still learning in use of technology. The opportunity of the Kafe C is they are having the loyal customers which always come to the cafe. This is because, not all the eating place having the same recipe as the Kafe C. Some of the students are really love with the recipe and come to the Kafe C every day. Other than that, the next opportunity is the owner of the cafe able to add more unique dishes that can be prepared to the customers. When they prepared more unique dishes, customers will be interested to try the dishes.

Last but not least, the threats faced by the Kafe C are a lot of competitors surround the cafe and problem in handling the staffs. There are 3 others restaurant nearby the Kafe C. Furthermore, the problem in handling staffs is because Mama hiring a lazy staff and less training staffs.

4.0 FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION 4.1 Findings and Problems Every company will face problems or issues in managing their business, same goes to Kafe C. After having the interview session with Mama, the main problem face by Kafe C is having problem on making a food preparation in a large quantity to serve all of their customers. This is because tools for cooking are limited because the space for cooking provided is not very spacious and some are small tools where they have to make something work repeatedly like frying chicken, fish and more. This is a challenge for small-medium enterprises because of the limited resources. Because of this, their customers will choose another cafe and never come to the cafe because the customers know process cooking in the kitchen will take time to wait. So, Mama need to overlook on the ability of the students to purchase her product, while maintaining her daily operating to cover her expenses.

The next problem facing by Kafe C is the always hire the wrong people and have a high turnover rate. Mama said that for the worker management, she has major trouble on the worker’s attitude. Her workers sometimes coming late to the working place which is the cafe, slow in cooking and serving customers and does not pay attention on their work. Due to this problem, Mama has to pay extra attention to her worker by guiding every step on handling the foods and drinks. This is also because she needs to hire a small amount of group to work in her cafe to deals and balance her expenses so that she can manage the profit of her cafe and to achieve her goals.

The last problem is Kafe C having problem on finding the unique recipes or the need that they should have in their cafe to compete with the other competitors. Mama was struggling on finding a new recipe or an original idea on her own recipe to attract customers need. It is hard to meet up with customers’ expectations on the food taste. Some customer like the menu but some are not. 6

4.2 Discussions and Solutions For the first problem which is problem on making food preparation in a large quantity, I would suggest for them to purchase on a high technology machine. Kafe C should purchase a gas fryer machine, which is high-capacity commercial gas stainless steel frying pan temperature control fryer fried chicken machine. The machine will help the owner a lot in frying a large quantity of fried chicken in very fastest way. It can consume time on the preparation of the foods and also can be served in a large quantity. So, when customers arrive at the cafe, the meals always available. Beside that, she can use the frying machine to fry another recipe such as Karipap, Doughnut and more.

Next, when running a restaurant, we need to know how to analyse the business to make sure it runs profitably. It is the most important pieces of the puzzle inside a management section. For worker management, the owner of Kafe C needs to prescreen questions or assessments through an ATS to help her gauge how interested an applicant is in a position through their willingness to complete extra steps, before inviting the applicant to an in-person interview. From that, she will get a disciplined worker. Besides, Mama should provide time recorder machine at the cafe to make sure the workers are not late and deduct pay when they punch a card after a set time rather, they have any reasonable excuse. So, this technology will help her in managing her workers.

Lastly, to find the unique recipes, the owner of the cafe can look up at the internet and check out extra concerning the latest trend of the kind of ingredients which might be well-known and sold well recently. On the internet, she can find many types and ways to make the unique recipes. The example of website that she can get the recipes for cooking are Yummly, MyResepi, ResepiCheNom and more. Since there are competition close by the eating place, the eating place have to go through a few enhancements concerning their look to make certain their cafe sticks out extra in comparison to the other restaurants. These solutions stated require financial helps in addition to effort and time to make it happen.

5.0 CONCLUSION In a nutshell, it can be concluded that the problems and solutions could be identified through this study case. This case study shows how the company try to change their market strategy and develop new idea. As we can see, the major problem faced by Kafe C is the lack of technology used which limited the growth of the cafe. By that, the owner of the cafe should improve their management system in hiring and training staffs to make sure her business always going smoothly. Furthermore, the owner of Kafe C should consider in purchasing gas fryer machine to make the job easy and faster. Other than that, she also needs to always search the recipe on the internet to adding more unique dishes in the cafe. To conclude, by doing SWOT analysis, the company can do a corporate planning as the part of development of strategies. Besides, the company’s response has been to ride the wave of new technological development and try to achieve the objective of business.
