Reflection Paper...

Description

Noora Ibrahim As I mentioned in my first reflection paper that this is my first semester that I am taking classes towards my major, General Psychology. I think Comparative Psychology is the foundation stage of general psychology in order to determine evolutionary relationships between species. I feel studying Comparative Psychology changes my perspective towards all animals, and that change has made me think that we, as human, are not better than animals, and we do not live alone on this earth. I did not have any previous knowledge about Comparative Psychology since I am a foreign student, and I have learned about animals' biology but not their psychology. What I have learned in this course have affected my evaluation and judgment of many behaviors that I encounter in daily bases by relating these topics to human behaviors and thinking about the evolutionary process in term of proximate and ultimate factors and the favor of natural selection that led to develop a specific behavior in specific way. My current weakness about the subjects covered in this course is the study of the phylogenetic history of animal behavior. I know it is a crucial topic for Comparative Psychology, but I feel it is not my interest. Learning about Antipredator behaviors is the most topic that I like to dive in and make forward progress. One of my favorite hobbies is camping for days in the wood. Learning how animals avoid and encounter their predators may help me to deal and manage different circumstances in my wildlife experiences in scientific based knowledge rather than social transmission type. I would improve and expand my knowledge in this area by having an expert mentor who shed the light on area of researches that focus on this topic. I hope to learn how animal perceive human and why there are animals fear or avoid human contact and others not? and what are the proximate and ultimate causes for this behavior? In general, I think Comparative Psychology has provided me with great deal of information regarding human function through the study of animal interaction, behavior, and evolution....
