Description

(FOR EEC1202)

For Students Interested in Applying for the CDA Credential In this course, you will explore the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential competencies and requirements for pursuing the CDA Credential. The CDA Credential, from the Council for Professional Recognition, is a national credential awarded to early childhood educators who meet competency standards in both education and experience. In your first few courses with Rasmussen College, you will be introduced to the competencies and complete assignments that will prepare you for pursuing the CDA Credential. The pursuit of the CDA Credential is based upon your eligibility and is entirely your choice. Fully use the support, timely guidance, and resources you will read about in this section to set yourself up for success. First- Am I eligible to apply for the CDA Credential? In order to take the next steps, you will first need to determine if you meet the education and experience requirements from the Council for Professional Recognition. Visit the Rasmussen School of Education CDA Credential Guide to find the current eligibility requirements.  

If you are eligible to apply, you will be completing the Assignments to insert in your online CDA Professional Portfolio and will be participating in the final preparations for application. If you are not eligible (or choose not to apply) you will still complete the Assignments in this course and you are encouraged to add them to a professional portfolio.

CDA Credential - Getting Started! 1. Visit the Rasmussen School of Education CDA Credential Guide. This guide contains

the CDA Application Checklist, answers to frequently asked questions, and other resources and tools. It is recommended that you review, save/print, and reference this guide throughout this course and program. 2. Visit the CDA Council website where you will find specific CDA resources. Also, this is where you will complete your CDA application. You cannot complete your CDA Credential application until you have completed all the requirements of the following courses: Foundations of Child Development, Curriculum and Instruction and Health, Safety and Nutrition. 3. Familiarize yourself with your CDA Competency Handbook. You must request a CDA Handbook for Infants and Toddlers, Preschool, or for Family Child Care depending on your age-group preference for the CDA. The handbook goes into further detail about the requirements, standards, and procedures in pursuing your CDA Credential. If you do

not have a CDA Competency Handbook, please see the CDA Credential Guide tab on Materials for directions in how to obtain your copy. 4. Obtain a physical 3-ring binder to create your Professional Portfolio. You will complete the components of this Portfolio while taking your courses. 5. Attend a live CDA Credential webinar to learn more about the CDA Credential. Your instructor will notify you of the dates and times. Webinars are offered each quarter and recordings are available on the CDA Credential Guide.
