1 CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction In business, the current innovations of technology has changed the way people do their tasks. The effect of this change has greatly affected the business operations, as well as financial transactions. Operations are not possible without computers, and computers are necessary for business. With the computer, communication is easier and gathering information more accessible. Many business sectors and institutions try to come up with an upgraded computer system in order to stay competitive. The computer's multi- function ability is a requisite in using a data communication network. Such network enables sharing data relatively in a small geographic area; and one of these network is Local Area Network (LAN). Local Area Network (LAN) is designed to accommodate computers within a limited area, such as a building, a school or a home. It is designed to allow resources to be shared between personal computers or workstations. These resources are the data, hardware, and software that share a communication line or wireless link. Typically, the connected devices share the resources of a single processor or server. The server has application and data storage that are shared in common by multiple computer users. The size of the LAN may be determined by licensing restrictions on the number of the users per copy of software, or by restrictions on the number of users licensed to access the operating systems.
