Chairside- procedure card Class III compostie Class III Composite restoration 1. Prepare the tooth a. Transfer the mouth mirror and explorer to the dentist b. Assist in administration of the local anesthetic c. Assist in selection of the shade of the composite material d. Place and secure moisture control technique i. Cotton roll & dental Damn 2. Prepare the cavity a. Transfer the high speed hand piece and hand cutting instruments so the dentist can remove decay from tooth structures. i. Inform the dentist of which bur is in the high-speed hand piece. b. Adjust the light and retract patient’s cheek or tongue as needed and use HVE and air/ water syringe to keep working area dry for the dentist. c. Rinse and dry prepared tooth for the dentist to evaluate and pass a mirror and explore. 3. Etching, Bonding and composite placement a. Deliver to the dentist the matrix of dentist choice. If permitted the dental assistant may place a matrix. i. If indicated place a wedge b. Assist in application of the primer and bonding resin which are light-cured in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. c. Place an appropriate amount of composite resin on the paper pad and protect from light. d. The dentist with use a high-speed hand piece with finishing burs to carve the restoration. e. Assist as the matrix is pulled and held tightly around the tooth while the composite material is light-cured from the lingual and facial surfaces. 4. Finishing the restoration a. Assist in removal of matrix strip and wedge b. If indicated, transfer finishing strips to smooth the interproximal surfaces. c. Remove moisture control technique and use articulating paper to check occlusion d. Assist while the dentist uses polishing discs, points and cups in the low-speed hand piece to polish the restoration. e. Inform the patient the composite material is cured and chewing is possible permitting by dentist. i. Most almost immediately. f. If the patient has received anesthetic, inform them to avoid chewing until lit has worn off and avoid biting their cheek or tongue. 5. Documentation a. Document the procedure...
