I. INTRODUCTION In defining community, different interpretation and various meaning is given as it is very broad and is changing and developing throughout the years, in its universal concept, it is defined as the people who live in a specific region or who are regarded a unit due to their same hobbies, social group, or nationality. It is the fondness of fellowship with others as a result of sharing common interest, place, ownership, and perceiving itself as a part of the society. The word community is derived from the Latin word “communitas” meaning the same, that came from the word “communis”, which means common, public, shared by all many. As stated by Allan Johnson, in his book, ‘Human Arrangements’ he defines community as a collection of people who share common territory and meet their basic physical and social needs through daily interaction with one another. For the community to function to its utmost ability, participating in community work as well as developing specific plans in carrying out goals are a must. Community needs assessment evaluates and focuses on the community's capacities, including residents, agencies, and organizations. It establishes a framework for developing and identifying services and solutions, as well as for creating communities that support and nurture children and their families.
A. Brief History
Over the years, the Barangay of Tunasan in Muntinlupa City became more developed as different establishments and institutions (private and public schools/universities) are established. It is one of the nine Barangay’s of Muntinlupa City and is considered as the biggest and longest in terms of land area. Constructed subdivisions, private and public institutions, and markets are properties that are often seen in this Barangay. Not only that but the Barangay also have its 9-kilometer Tunasan river that begins in City of Dasmarinas and ends at the border of Muntinlupa. Tunasan, once part of the friar estate known as Tunasan San Pedro, was named from a lotus-like plant called tunas. It is known for its medicinal uses which flourished near the lake. It is located in the First district with three (3) other barangays of Poblacion, Putatan, and Bayanan. It was believed that in the mid-13th century, Datu Puti lead a group of Malays to travel towards Luzon, with him are two Datus’ namely Datu Manaplo and Datu Malamig. When they reached Laguna de Bay, they decided to settle on the land area, they found “Bagbagan” and built their homes. It was in the year 1735 when Bagbagan changed to Tunasan. During the American rule, there was a legend that when American’s stock their Tuna Sardines in their area, people hide it. Every time they eat, an errand boy will get some of these food, (Totoy kumuha ka ng Tuna) and the errand boy will
ask “where?” (Saan?). And being so repeatedly, the term Tuna-san was coined to be the name of the area. It has a land area of 959.60 hectares and is bounded on the North by Poblacion, East by Laguna de Bay, West by the Province of Cavite, and on the South by the City of San Pedro, Laguna. The population of Tunasan grew from 30, 878 in 1990 to 61, 374 in the year of 2020.
