(DMSCBS) Explanation Order of the algorithm of a long division problem. DMSCBS stands for Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Check that the divisor is larger than your remainder, Bring down the next number, and Start all over again.

Mnemonic device No Dirty Dogs! Numerator Divided (by) Denominator Explanation To read or convert fractions rememberNumerator Divided (by) Denominator.3/53 divided by 5 = 0.6 Hint: the decimal six tenths is equivalent to three fifths. Students tend to divide the LARGER # by the SMALLER number and commonly miss these types of items. Also, I teach my students to automatically "annex 0's by writing the "understood decimal, placing it on the quotient bar directly above, and then annexing at least two zeros. Mnemonic device Everybody's Daddy, Mother, Sister, Brother, Reunion, Celebration Explanation Estimate, Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring Down, Redo (all steps), Check (by multiplying the quotient plus any remanider times the divisor.) Students use compatable numbers to estimate the quotient. Then follow each step to complete the division. ALWAYS check by multiplication to find the dividend. Note: If it is a decimal number that repeats - it will never be the exact dividend but will round to the exact dividend.Brenda Woods shared this one & my stuedents added the ist & last words. Mnemonic device Dull Monkeys Swim Backwards or Does Mcdonalds Sell Burgers Explanation divide, multiply, subtract and bring down

Compilation of ECE Mnemonics How to multiply two binomials together?

BINOMIAL MULTIPLICATION If you had to multiply two binomials together such as (a+b) and (c+d), how would you keep track of the resulting products to make sure that you have multiplied everything and not left anything out. Think of FOIL First, Outer, Inner, Last (a+b)*(c+d) = ac(first) + ad(outer) + bc(inner) +bd(last) Factoring a Trinomial with a Lead Coefficient

1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

The "3R" Method: "R"emove the lead coefficient, but don't throw it away. Multiply the constant with the lead coefficent. Factor the remaining trinomial "R"eplace the lead coefficent you removed. Put it in front of both x's. "R"educe! Reduce the numbers in each set of parenthesis, as you would a fraction, to lowest terms. Optional - use the FOIL method to check and see that I am right. *note: if the three numbers in the trinomial have a common factor it must be factored out in the beginning for the "3R" method to work. Mnemonic device The alligators always want to eat the most they can. (They always eat the bigger number.) EX: 1 < 2 Explanation Helps with greater then and less then. Mnemonic device Pinch goes to the smaller number Explanation
