Description

Unconditioned stimulus is the bullying which occurs. Neutral stimulus is the sound of the bell. Unconditioned response is the anxious feel. Conditioned stimulus is the sound of the bell. Conditioned response is the anxious feel. Unconditioned stimulus

Extinction is basically the response gets reduced or decreased which was actually present. The person stopped being anxious after a point where the bell rang but bullying behavior did not occur. The bully returns to the school after a two week period, this makes the johnny not to feel anxious because the extinction occurred, extinction usually occurs when the unconditioned stimulus(bullying) and conditioned(bell) stimulus are not being paired together. So when the bell rings, the effect of becoming anxious to the sound of the bell disappears in johnny. So the conditioned response of johnny disappears.

1. Unconditioned stimulus – the sight of bullying student Unconditioned response – Anxiety developed due to seeing the bullying boy. Conditioned stimulus – Hearing of bell for recess. Conditioned response – Anxiety development due to the thought of seeing the bullying boy during recess. 2. Extinction is the gradual fading of a conditioned response when a conditioned stimulus is no longer giving an expected outcome. In John’s situation, the first four days will produce anxiety. However on finding that the bullying boy is no longer present the conditioned response will vanish over time and by the end of first week, John will not produce anxiety on hearing recess bell sound. 3. Spontaneous recovery is the reappearance of a conditioned response after a pause. After John has fully recovered from anxiety and is found to see the bullying boy, the anxiety syndrome in John will re-emerge. Following this the bell of recess will bring back the old level of anxiety.

1.The child who bullied Johny is the unconditioned stimulus Johny's anxiousness while being bullied is the unconditioned response The school bell is a Neutral stimulus By repeated pairing with seeing the bully after the recess bell, the school bell became the conditioned stimulus. by associating bell with the bully, the sound of the bell itself started making Johnny anxious, which is the Conditioned response. 2. Extinction is the fading of CR( conditioned response) Extinction occurs in classical Conditioning when Conditioned response doesn't not occur following the Conditioned response. In the above case when the bully goes on for a vacation, Johnny no longer gets to see him during the recess hour which reduces his anxiousness towards the sound of the recess bell. Extinction occurs when the school bell (CS) no longer produces anxiety (CR). 3.When the bully returns to school after the vacation, spontaneous Recovery of Conditioned response occurs making Johnny anxious towards the school bell again. Again CR follows CS. Spontaneous Recovery is the re-emergence of conditioned response (that was previously extinguished) after a rest period....
