Contexts of communication....

Description

The five communication contexts include intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, public, and mass communication. These are described as follows: Intrapersonal communication is a self-talk, a communicator's internal use of language or thought. It includes acts of imagination and visualization and even recall and memory. (Mc Lean, S.,2005). It can be negative or positive communication and it directly influences how one perceives and react to situations and communications with others. In intrapersonal communication, we communicate with our selves. I witnessed intrapersonal communication during my high school after my dad passed away it was hard for me to concentrate in class, I heard many unanswered questions in my mind which end up causing me to not hear when my teacher was teaching because I was thinking of many things in my mind.

Interpersonal communication is a communication which involves two or more people. It can range from intimate and very personal to formal and impersonal. It's a process where people exchange information through verbal and non-verbal messages. During interpersonal communication, there's message sending and message receiving. (Mc Lean, S (2010) ) The sender and the receiver both have to understand the message, it might be an employer and employee and it can take place in face to face conversations. I witnessed interpersonal communication when my mother was giving me bits of advice on how to live a good life with no regrets.

Group communication is a process where a small number of people engage in a conversation. It is generally defined as involving three to eight people. A group can be based on age, sex or education. It can be a group discussion with a specific topic which they focus on. A larger group can break down to a smaller group due to differences. I have been in a group discussion whereby we will be focusing on major topics which we seem to be not understanding. As a group, we come up with different ideas and at the end of the day, we will be having something strong and understandable. (Mc Lean, S (2010) )

Public communication is whereby there is only one person who speaks to a group of people in a public speaking area. That person is called a speaker or writer, s(he) may ask questions and then the audience will engage in a discussion. It happens when individuals and groups engage in a dialogue in the public sphere in order to deliver a message to a specific audience. (Mc Lean, S (2010) ). I did public communication when I was in high school presenting a sports report to the whole school, all I needed was confidence, focus and to make sure that the people I'm presenting to understand it.

Mass communication is the process of sending a single message to a group of people. It allows to spread out message fast to a large number of people. It differs from other sources of communication because it focuses on a single source transmitting information to a larger number of receivers. It is done through many mediums such as television, social networking, and newspapers. The audiences

of mass communication are not organized in a certain area they are just scattered in different places. I see mass communication everyday sales adverts on television or in newspapers.

The context appealed the most to me is the intrapersonal communication because I felt it myself and it affected me a lot. I experienced it a lot and it was hard for me to stop or avoid it up until I got some counseling. The death of my father kept playing in my head and still today the memories still remain.

The context which appealed to me the least is the mass communication because I always see the adverts for sales on television and some coming events especially conference or music concerts. I have seen many things transformed on the social network. People choose some communication context over others because they differ in the way they convey information, some are rich (the amount of information that can be transmitted during that communication period) in that they can handle multiple cues simultaneously, facilitate rapid feedback and some are very personal.
