Presentation Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer. He is famously known for his works used in ballets such as e Nutcracker and Swan Lake. (uDiscover Music). During his childhood, he instantly developed a passion for music, however, at this time, Russia did not have access to music education. So his parents send him to an all boys boarding school for awhile. Later on, Tchaikovsky received music lessons and eventually went to college to take music classes. After graduating from the St. Petersburg Conservatory, he began to teach music theory. (Lumen). He lived on to create tons of music works and died in 1893. One interesting fact about Tchaikovsky was that he was gay, but, at this time, homosexuality was deemed illegal. Therefore to cover up the fact that he was gay, he reckless accpeted a woman’s confession and married her. Afterwards, he left her and moved abroad. (Encyclopædia Britannica). Disney’s Sleeping Beauty features Tchaikovshy's “Sleeping Beauty Waltz” which was adapted from the ballet, e Sleeping Beauty. This piece was finished in 1889. (Tchaikovsky Research). “Sleeping Beauty Waltz” was written for e Sleeping Beauty ballet. The ballet has three acts and includes a prologue which lasts about two to three hours. (Tchaikovsky Research). The story of e Sleeping Beauty ballet is very similar to the 1959 Disney film, Sleeping Beauty. (Disney Wiki). All in all, I decided to do my presentation on Tchaikovshy's “Sleeping Beauty Waltz” because of how dreamy and angelic it sounds. I have always loved Disney movies and songs. Before this assignment, I thought that Disney wrote this song, however it is clear that it was adapted by Tchaikovshy's “Sleeping Beauty Waltz.” Hopefully, after we find a cure for the pandemic, I will go watch and experience e Sleeping Beauty ballet. Professor Di Chiacchio Music 093 13 July 2020 Presentation #2 In Coco, “Remember Me,” was played about four times. The song was played three times throughout the film and once during the end credits. “Remember Me” was composed by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson Lopez. (Vanity Fair). This couple has been married since 2003. They have two children together. (Wikipedia). Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez wrote the hit song “Let it Go” featured in Disney’s Frozen. (NPR).

4 The first time the song, “Remember Me,” was played was in a flashback. The main character, Miguel, recalls the moment before another character, Ernesto de la Cruz, died. Before his death, Ernesto de la Cruz, voiced by Benjamin Bratt, performed “Remember Me” during a concert. There were lots of dancers and bright colorful lights. As this song played, it was an entertaining and joyful moment. (Benjamin Bratt - Remember Me (Ernesto de la Cruz) (From "Coco")). The second time the song played was when another main character, Hector, was facing problems. He was about to vanish, because his loved one was about to forget him. Then, the two characters discover that they are, in fact, family. Hector recalls another flashback about his daughter, Coco. In the flashback, he sings “Remember Me,” the song he wrote for Coco to make sure she remembers him when he leaves to become a musician. (Remember Me (Lullaby) (From "Coco"/Sing-Along)). This was a sad moment, because Hector wrote this song to say “goodbye” to his daughter. However, in my opinion, this is also a happy yet tear jerking moment because Miguel and Hector discover that they are each other's great-great grandson and great-great grandpa. The third time the song was played was when Miguel goes back and meets with Coco, his grandmother, and sings in order for her to remember her father, Hector. After returning from the land of the dead, he rushes to his grandmother and, despite obstacles, sings “Remember Me.” (Anthony Gonzalez, Ana Ofelia Murguía - Remember Me (Reunion) (From "Coco"/Sing-Along)). Eventually, Coco remembers and Hector is not forgotten. Overall, Coco is a great film that made me laugh and cry. I recommend everyone to watch, and if you had already watched it then rewatch it! Professor Di Chiacchio Music 093 20 July 2020 Final Presentation Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer who is famously known for his works used in ballets such as e Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. (uDiscover Music). He had also written works for e Nutcracker. e Nutcracker was first performed on 18 December 1892 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. (Dance Advantage). Mattel’s first Barbie movie, Barbie in the Nutcracker, features some of Tchaikovsky’s works such as “Pa de deux - Dance of the Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy.” (Barbie Movies Wiki). Barbie in the Nutcracker is about a girl named Clara who received a Nutcracker doll for Christmas and magically the doll comes alive. Soon enough, they come across the Mouse King who cursed Clara and the Nutcracker. So as an attempt to undo the curse, they seek out to find the Sugar Plum Princess. Together, they go to Parthenia to find the princess. At Parthenia, they team up with allies and defeat enemies on their journey to reverse the curse. Eventually, Clara discovered that the Nutcracker is Prince Eric and that she is Sugar Plum Princess. (Barbie Movies Wiki). In the movie, the song is played after the Nutcracker is transformed back to his original self as Prince Eric. Prince Eric dances with Clara to the “Dance of the Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy”. (Barbie in The Nutcracker - “The Sugar Plum Princess” Clara & Prince Eric Dance). The pa de deux is a dance created for the Sugar Plum Fairy and the prince in e Nutcracker ballet. In French, the phrase “pa de deux” means “a dance by two persons.” ( Dictionary). All in all, Mattel’s Barbie in the Nutcracker is one of my favorite Barbie movies along with Barbie in the Princess and the Pauper, Barbie as the Island Princess, Barbie and the ree Musketeers, and Barbie: Princess Charm School.
