Description

Cultural Clashes and Immigrants According to Statista.com Sweden has given 115,802 immigrants and their families home, just only during 2019. Almost certainly there are different people among those immigrants with big cultural differences. Sweden is a very friendly country when it comes to welcoming different cultures from all around the world. During the past ten years, over 1 million immigrants moved to Sweden. This is not a problem at all, but the cultural clashes are. In the story about Senegal by Maya Angelou, we can read about how she stepped on the matt, that was there for the food. She was only there for less than a week, so that is not a huge mistake, but out of my own experience after only half a year you learn the unwritten rules of a country. Imagine if Maya would stay in Senegal for a year and would keep walking on Samia´s matt. Wouldn´t Samia get frustrated? How many times have you seen someone littering the streets with sunflower seeds? In a lot of countries, this is totally normal, however, Sweden has really clean streets, which is why littering is unacceptable. It is not the biggest issue, and I understand that too, yet it is a sign of disrespect. If individuals ignore the fact that Swedes like their streets clean, they will probably ignore a lot of other important things too. An article was written in the Swedish newspaper Samtiden.nu about an older woman whose seat was taken by an immigrant after she left it to take her food. When she came back she said that it was her seat, but the group of immigrants laughed at her and did not give her place back. Of course, this will make the lady think badly about the group of immigrants and lose respect for them. Furthermore, many individuals may say that immigrants do not want to change their culture and lifestyles, just because they moved to another country. Yet, they do not necessarily need to change, they just need to learn about the new culture and try to be multicultural, so that cultural clashes may be avoided. If everyone took this into consideration, racism and generalization would not be a big issue, as it is today. In addition, I truly believe for a country like Sweden, which has been building mosques and other temples out of respect for all kinds of people from around the world, should get more respect and appreciation than it has been given.

In conclusion, Sweden has housed over one million immigrants, during the last ten years. Not all, but some of those immigrants have been ignoring and disrespecting the Swedish culture, which has been causing cultural conflicts. This can cause more generalization and racism. In my opinion, it is a lack of respect if you do not learn the culture of the country where you are moving. No one needs to change their culture. They just need to

learn how to cooperate and live with different people. I never had a conflict with someone about cultural differences, because I have respected the country's unwritten rules and behavior.
