Please type your answers below each question. 1. Summarize Romans 3:20-26. Romans 3:20-26 states that no one will obtain holiness through the law. Instead, we will become aware of our sins through the law. Everyone sins, no matter your background. Jesus was sent to die for our sins and bring righteousness to all. 2. Summarize Matthew 5:44. Matthew 5:44 claims we must love our enemies and pray for the people who maltreat us. 3. How does the textbook interpret Matthew 18:21-35 and the Christian’s ability to forgive others? In the textbook, Matthew 18:21-35 is described as those who wish to be forgiven, yet do not forgive those who wronged them. In this scripture, Jesus demonstrates that you must demonstrate kindness and have mercy on those around you. If you treat others with respect and patience, you will receive that from God. 4. Describe the Christian view of salvation and how it differs from the views of other religions. The Christian view of salvation concentrates on the importance of faith to get into Heaven. Many people believe that only performing good deeds will propel them to salvation, when actuality it comes down to faith. With other religions it tends be vice-versa. Good acts are encouraged so that you will be saved and simply having faith is not enough. Some religions understand that salvation happens through ourselves while Christians believe that it happens through God. 5. What three words beginning with “R” used in the lesson and overview summarize the gospel message? © 2017. Grand Canyon University. All Rights Reserved.

The three words that begin with “R” used in the lesson are Rescue, Redemption, and Renewal. In the scripture Paul says, “a person is not justified by works of the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ” (Galatians 2:16). Continuing have faith in Jesus Christ will bring you to salvation, while doing only kind acts will not. The gospel message accentuates the need of continuous faith. Rescue is the first “R” which means that God sent Christ to save us from our sins and be the ultimate sacrifice. Redemption is linked with repentance; allowing you to be forgiven your sins. With redemption you will obtain salvation by declaring your loyalty to God. Lastly, Renewal which basically states that once we accept Jesus into our lives by the work of the Holy Spirit, we will begin a life where we live for eternity. 6. Briefly summarize Isaiah 53:4-6. Isaiah 53:4-6 declares that Christ endured the burdens of our sins so that we could reach salvation. 7. What is the mark of a Christian according to Jesus in John 13:35? The mark of a Christian is loving one another. 8. Read Hebrews 9:24-28. Briefly state the point in each of the last three verses (26-28). The last three verses of Hebrews 9:24-28 emphasizes Jesus’ relationship to humanity. He died for our sins one time, and will be at the gates of Heaven at the right hand of the Father. He will award those with salvation. Just as humans die one time and endure judgment at his hand. 9. Summarize John 20:24-29. What is the significance of this passage for Christians today? Thomas was not with the disciples when Jesus came before him. He told the other disciples he will not believe that Christ is resurrected until he sees the scars himself. Once Jesus appeared again, Thomas saw the nail marks and believed in him. Jesus said to Thomas, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29). Christians are unable to see Christ himself, but are able to experience him through those who have been called by him. Although they cannot see him physically, Christians continue to believe in Christ because of his never-ending presence in their lives.
