Janessa Gomez Student ID:001551861 D092: Using Technology In The Classroom

A. Case # 680 Applying Listening And Speaking Skills While Presenting A Digital Scrapbook About The Early Settlers. A1. Describe the technology and how it is integrated in the instructional process a. Identify the level of technology integration according to the SAMR model, and provide a rationale for your selection. In this video a smartboard is used to integrate instruction allowing for the students to present their digital scrapbooks. Within this classroom the educator explains to the second grade students on how to be a good listener. When giving instruction, the educator is using the smartboard to present to all students. The students are then able to use the smartboard to present their projects with their groups. The level of technology integration would be substitution according to the SAMR model. While working on the presentation, the students are using computers to come up with designs rather than drawing and using a poster.

A2. Explain how the technology integration affected the teaching and learning process. Using a smartboard allows for the students to respond in alternative ways and can ultimately replace poster boards and white boards as a form to present information. Using the smartboard is an easier way for teachers to give instruction to the students and transition to the students' presentations.

A3. Explain how integration at a different level of SAMR could improve student learning. The integration of technology at a different level would be modification within the lesson given in this classroom. The students could have taken notes on school laptops and used google documents to familiarize the students with enhancing their typing skills. This would be easier for students to use rather than paper because the amount of time lost for students to get out a piece of paper, sharpen pencils and chances of losing that information . B. Case #1515 Assessing Good Listening And Speaking Skills With Technology

B1. Describe the technology and how it is integrated in the instructional process a. Identify the level of technology integration according to the SAMR model, and provide a rationale for your selection In this video, the technology tool integrated in the kindergarten classroom is a video camera. The educator instructs the students they will be using the camera to record their all about me presentation which originally was modeled on a posterboard. The level of integration according to the SAMR model would be augmentation. Although the students are able to use the poster boards as reference of the information they will be providing, the students use the camera to record the initial presentation. The video camera allows for the student to gain more knowledge of a new form of technology in the classroom.

B2.Explain how the technology integration affected the teaching and learning process. Integrating technology in the classroom allowed for the students to use a video camera and get familiar with a new form of education. Using the video camera helps because with the selfassessment since the information was recorded it gives the educator as well as student to look back at the presentation. The integration affected the teaching process by allowing the students to present with a video, the educator is able to rewatch and assess effectively rather than having them turn in a paper project or speak in front of their peers.

B3. Explain how integration at a different level of SAMR could improve student learning. Integration at a different level of the SAMR model such as substitution may be used to improve the students' way of learning. When using substitution an example would be still using a camera but rather than having the poster board available for reference, the students can do without to practice their memory skills.

C. Case # 1676 Answering Questions Using Common Devices C1. Describe the technology and how it is integrated in the instructional process a. Identify the level of technology integration according to the SAMR model, and provide a rationale for your selection In this video, a special education teacher is in a class with 10th graders who have a variety of disabilities. The educator is using an iPad as her technology tool within the classroom as she uses

it as a way to communicate with the students. The level of technology integration is augementive, while using this device it helps the students answer questions about transportation allowing for an easier way to communicate and understand each other.

C2. Explain how the technology integration affected the teaching and learning process. Integration of technology in the classroom allowed for the educator and support staff to come up with different methods and materials to use along with the communication application tool. Using this tool will help these students with expansion in their vocabulary and help them learn effectively. C3. Explain how integration at a different level of SAMR could improve student learning. Integration at a different level of the SAMR model such as modification can be a way to improve the students' learning process. In this process the educator can create a matching game in the communication application to have the students click and answer. Without the use of this form of technology it would be difficult to comprehend what a student is saying or if they have questions. Incorporating this device and application allows for the students to actually participate with each other, have a better understanding of what is being taught, and expand their vocabulary and memorization skills. This slightly modifies what the educator originally was using with the students and allows for students to work with their disability.
