Introduction Third-grade classroom in a Title 1 school in a low-income area with 28 students. All students are aged 8 to 10 years old. Of the 28 students, I have 7 English language learners. All of whose primary language is Spanish. I have a mixture of Hispanic and white students and some Asian. There are a variety of learners in this set including the kinesthetic learner, visual learner, and auditory learner. To ensure I address all learning needs of the students, I need to first improve my practices and do better to be better. To improve my teaching practices, a plan must be in motion to help increase student participation and improve comprehension skills.

D182- Task 2 Developing a Professional Growth plan

A. Instructional need An instructional challenge related to student learning that I see in my current practice as a teacher is the lack of motivation to learn and participate. Students have been affected by the pandemic so much that the urge to learn new things has diminished. With the urge to learn gone, the ability to read fluently and comprehend has decreased significantly. Students are struggling with reading simple words and have a hard time understanding new vocabulary words. Students are lacking engagement and reading skills. B. Goals B1. Long term goal A long-term goal will be to get students to an 80% mastery of comprehension within 18 weeks. One-hour interventions, daily for 18 weeks to increase mastery of comprehension skill across standards.

B1a. The long-term goal of mine is for my students to be skillful and to love reading. To get them to love reading I first must address their lack of comprehension when reading. I will conduct an intervention for one hour daily, focusing on different standards and skills that need improvement, which will lead to better levels of mastery for comprehension in informational and literary texts. Switching the genre and text types can also help identify strengths and weaknesses in certain texts. The one-hour daily interventions will focus on the fluency needs at first and then lead to successful reading comprehension. It allows students the opportunity to ask questions, take their time, and approach it the best way they know-how. During the intervention, students are in small groups for more one-one attention. B1b. Short-term goals Before a student can comprehend what it is they are reading they must first know what they are reading. Three measurable short-term goals include sight word fluency, sentence fluency, Paragraph fluency We would focus on Sight word fluency one hour a day for three weeks Monday through Friday. After sightwords have been mastered, we will focus on sentence fluency one hour a day for 4 weeks, monday through friday. After sentence fluency is mastered, paragraph fluency will be focused on for one hour a day for up to 7 weeks, Monday through Friday. Allowing 8 weeks for further advancement too if a student should regress. B2. Another long-term goal for professional growth is to be better to do better. I can be better at presenting material, and getting students engaged by adapting new ways. I can start by being better with my materials and resources. By September 1st, 2021, I will

have learned three new strategies to help engage students in reading and improve their reading skills. B2a. My long-term goal of learning three new strategies will help improve student reading skills. It will also help motivate the students to pay attention and be engaged in new concepts. Implementing the learned stratgeties will change the classroom learning environment and improve the student reading skills. B2b. Short term Goal #1 By June 20th, I will attend a webinar on a new strategy focused on engaging students in reading. B2bi. Actionable steps goal #1 First, I will research available webinars that are focused on engaging students in reading. Second, I will register for the webinar, attend and take notes to adopt the new strategys effectively. B2bii. I will research one hour webinars on multiple platforms over the course of five days. The webinar will take one hour to complete. C. Making and achieving long-and short-term goals Making and achieving long-and short-term goals can help me continually improve my instructional practice by holding myself accountable when I do not achieve the goals outlined. Goals can be adjusted as needed but having an outline provides a sense of direction and a pathway to ensure success....
