Ongoing Collaborative Learning Through Professional Development

Goal

Plan/Steps

Ongoing Learning Through Personal Growth

A goal that I have for my ongoing learning in professional development would be to attend and participate in as many educational conferences as possible.

A goal for my ongoing learning through personal reflection would be to keep a personal journal, so I can reflect on my teaching practices.

I plan to find conferences that align with my current classroom goals and the ones that I can apply to my teaching. I know that conferences can be expensive, so I plan to create a saving account that is specifically for the traveling expenses. Also, I plan to ask the school administration for financial

I plan to write in a journal every evening after school to reflect on what happened in the classroom. I plan to write about how the day went, how the lessons went, how the students did and their behavior, and discuss how I did teaching. I want to write as many details as possible so when it

Ongoing Learning Through Advancement of Education A goal that I have to advance my education would be to start on my master’s degree as soon as I finish the current program that I am. I want to earn my master’s degree within 2 years of completing my bachelor’s and work my way to earning my doctorate’s degree. My ultimate goal is to have my Doctorate’s degree within 5-8 years of earning my bachelor’s. My plan is to immediately enroll in a program to earn my master’s degree. I know myself, and if I wait too long to enroll then I will not do it or procrastinate, which will delay my end goal. I have really enjoyed attending GCU, and my plan is to earn all my higher education degrees at GCU. I plan on

Goal Alignment to State Requirements, Professional/Ethical Requirements, and/or Personal Interest A goal that is aligned with my personal interest is to become an elementary school teacher certified as a reading specialist.

In order to become a certified reading specialist in the state of Tennessee, I must have 5 years of teaching experience inside a classroom. Along with having 5 years of teaching experience, I will have to take a specific set of courses approved by the state of Tennessee. These courses will

comes time to reflect on my teaching process, I know where I could make changes. I want to be able to reflect on my teaching weekly, monthly, and quarterly, so I know I am providing the best educational experience to my students. I know there are many benefits with personal reflections and I plan to use journal writing as a tool to observe and evaluate the way I act and respond to situations in my classroom. It is a great way for me to know what I am doing correctly and what I need to change. The process of reflecting on my teaching supports the development and maintenance of my professional expertise. I believe that exploring my own teaching through reflection develops changes in my attitude and awareness, which I think can benefit my professional growth as a teacher, and improve the kind of support I provide to my students.

continuing with online courses and complete the schoolwork after work. I have a strong support system which reassures me that I will be able to do this. I know I will be busy and balancing both work and school will be tiring, but the end goal will be worth it. There are so many benefits with earning a master’s degree (and a Doctorate’s) that is both beneficial to the students and myself. Having a graduate degree will improve my teaching skills, increased job stability, more classroom and hands-on experience, and a greater income potential, which will also benefit the classroom. I am mainly interested in the opportunity to improve my teaching skills and with a Master’s in Education, I will be able to understand my role as an educator better. It will also give me the perspective of how the administration system works and how the choices are made and why. I just want to be able to bring the best experiences and teaching methods into my classroom, and I know that continuing my education will ensure just that.

provide me with the knowledge and skills stipulated by the Tennessee Licensure Standards for Reading Specialist. The specific courses can be part of a specialized master’s degree or taken after completion of a master’s degree.

Becoming certified as a reading specialist will continue my professional development because I will gain more knowledge on language development, how written information is processed, and how to properly assess students in different grades, and of different linguistic backgrounds. It is my goal to help every child, no matter their background or disability, learn how to properly read. I want to be able to communicate the results of the assessments from the children I helped to teachers, parents, and administration in hopes that they will be able to help and change their curriculums to better assist every child. The reason being, is not every school has a reading specialist, so communicating the new finding on ways to help children read better is vital. This allows everyone an equal opportunity to a great education. My growth plan will ultimately serve the maximum learning outcomes for young children because it allows for my teaching methods to improve and change as well as the learning methods. I will learn and master how to properly assess my student’s needs and learning. I will be doing everything that I can to enhance my understanding on how to better my teaching strategies which will show to my students the importance of lifelong learning. Today’s classrooms are made up of diverse students with different needs and interests and to be sure every student is successful and maximizing their I realize the importance and necessity of lifelong learning and in order to maintain great practice inside the classroom, attending conferences is vital. The way we understand a child’s developmental process is always changing with new research and not being up-todate with the new teaching strategies is not an option if we want to provide excellent care and education. Continuing my professional development will benefit my career and I will be able to better serve the children under my care.

Young Children

learning outcomes, we must create lessons that are tailored to their learning levels and my growth plan supports that. My goals to attend conferences, journaling my self-reflection on teaching and my classroom, my goals to attain my doctorates, and to be certified as a reading specialist all allow me to better understand the development of children and how to better assist them, which in the end will strengthen their learning outcome. With my goals, I will be able to identify my students’ strengths and weaknesses through assessments and observations. Once I identify where they are at, I can use my knowledge to develop a plan of action to help them succeed and master every skill and/or lesson. Also, I believe my goals will help me create a fun and welcoming classroom environment where every student will be excited to come and learn. I know some days will be hard and some students will have different behavioral problems, but the training and skills listed in my growth plan will provide me with ways to correct and overcome the problems when they arise. As I mentioned in my professional growth plan, I believe every child deserves an equal chance at a great education and I will do everything in my power/position to make sure that it happens. The goals that I have set out guarantees that I am on the right path in accomplishing equal opportunity education for every student.
