Graus Relativo Superlativo
Inferioridade Superioridade (analítico ou sintético)
Absoluto
Ex.: This building is as high as that one. (Este edifício é tão algo quanto aquele.) Observação: Na negação, o primeiro as é substituído por not so (não tão). Ex.: This building is not so high as that one.
Ex.: This book is more interesting than that one.
Ex.: This book is thicker than that one.
Ex.: Charles is less strong than Robert. Ex.: Charles is not so strong as Robert. (Charles não é tão forte como Robert.)
SUPERLATIVO
Superlativo Relativo de Superioridade Analítico Para formar-se o superlativo de superioridade analítico antepõe-se the most (o mais) ao adjetivo. Ex.: This is the most populous city in this country.
Ex.: This is the broadest avenue in this city.
Ex.: Which is the least difficult of these exercises? Ex.: Which is the easiest of these exercises? (Qual é o mais fácil destes exercícios?)
Superlativo Absoluto É formado antepondo-se ao adjetivo, na forma normal: most, very, very much, highly, absolutely, exceedingly, extremely, perfectly, etc. Ou em linguagem coloquial: awfully, terribly, etc. Ex.: She was most kind to me. (Ela foi simpatissíssima comigo.) I am awfully tired. (Estou cansadíssimo)
