Obtain permission to visit an old cemetery (where people died BEFORE 1945)

These data are also available on-line for many cemeteries



Record the age and sex (can usually tell by name or epitaph on headstone) of a minimum of 50 people who lived and died during a 100-year period. Please select AT RANDOM



Group age data into age classes (your decision)



Construct a frequency histogram.



In which age class was mortality the highest?



In which age class was mortality the lowest?



Answer the previous two questions as a percentage of the total number of graves investigated.



Was there a significant difference in the MEAN age at death between males and females? (Use a Student’s t-test in Excel)



Was there a significant difference in the NUMBER of males versus females who died during the time period? (Use a chi-square test….Use stat handout! It is easier than Excel)



If the answer to either of the previous two question is yes, what factors may have contributed to this difference?
