Opinion Texts

THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION, THE WORLD AT A CLICK OF A BUTTON This is a very interesting article to discuss, not only because of the topic itself, it is also special the way people and experts can see and understand reality a few years later, approximately 10 years or more. The text present some opinions about relationship between creative industry people and internet through their work. It is an approximation of concerns in past years, not many. But is curious how internet and developing and emerging technologies can help to make life easier and how it has been transformed the way we see reality and the way we live in society. People in creative industries, as we can read in the article, show benefits of belonging to a completely connected world. They said internet has helped to knock down geographic, economic and social borders and it is true, as the fact of in recent years more people has access to have a mobile telephone and to internet, but the way of interacting with these technologies is still being different from developing countries to nations with a lot of technology and good quality of life. Concerns change all over the years, as the text points out “more recently, the question is how fast is the connection?” (Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project, 2007) but we have to make an effort to attend

technologies. It is true as we see in real life “blogs and social networks like facebook or twitter are powerful tools to show our work globally” (Romano, 2006). But what if we think of actions related to the fact of a global connected society, how people use technologies, analysing behaviour and human interactions. It seems to be a good information society, with data surrounding everything and overexposed with lots of content. But it would be wise to question: what do we do with that amount of information and data? It’s important to understand the fact that a lot of real life experiences as the article mentions are reinforced by global research and some are dependents on new technologies. Society has become more dependant.

Nowadays, attending the social problems and the situacion of the pandemic Covid19, are curious to observe the interconnections between communication technologies in order to face some challenges, and one of the consequences of being connected with other nations like the European Union, who has not frontiers between members countries and how this fact helped to the faster spread of Covid19 around the continent and to the rest of the world. The article is the top of an iceberg to discover more social affairs.

DIGITALLY POSSESSED This article excited me a lot, because has a kind of universal aura to attend some of the principal issues humanity has discussed since its origins, like goods, possessions, self-definition and valuable perceptions. The author of the article mentions some very interesting quotes and beginning

of

these

things

“possessions help define who we are and what story we present to other people” (Greengard, 2012), no matter if they are real or virtual objects. Also a

marketing professor reinforced the quoted mentioned before

“There is a psychological appropriation that takes place as an individual connects to an object, item, or idea,” (Kleine, 2012) Another interesting remark is how fast changes the relation between people and the world through generations, it is very common to have a tendency to say “there were other or better times” in contrast to “we are the generation of changing, we do things different” “among young people who have grown up in a digital world and, in some cases, cannot relate to the physical objects of the past” (Greengard, 2012)

But what I think is good to know is that putting aside the evolution of technology and transformation of societies, human beings are still holding their essence, the process can change, also the media, objects and channels but not the main purpose.

“Instead of creating photo albums, we post pictures on Facebook and YouTube” (Greengard, 2012) Another example of holding the essence is clearly money transactions and exchanging practices all over the years. “In fact, virtual money and possessions are not an entirely new concept. For years, society has used virtual funds, such as credit and debit cards, to handle transactions and pay for goods” (Greengard, 2012)...
