Description

Health literacy is being able to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. There are tons factors that impact health literacy such as socioeconomic status, language barrier and culture all have a role in the impact of health literacy wether it’s good or bad. Language barrier is problem because there can be miscommunication between the doctor and patient. For example if a doctors prescribes a medication for the patient and the patient doesn’t understand the directions because it’s in english, they don’t understand it because it wasn’t translated properly. Now socioeconomic status is problem because someone who has lower socio- economic aren’t able to afford paying for there medical needs such as vaccines, blood work, test, medication, etc.. They also might now be able to provide school for themselves and their children. There children won’t be educated which can effort there family in the future because they weren’t educated properly due to socioeconomic status. Some other factors that may impact access to care are ● People with disabilities ○ People who have disabilities also face a number of barriers to access to health care that are specific to their individual limitations in function The barriers include physical access and absence of working elevators or ramps, automatic doors, hallways and doors wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs, and accessible parking; policies that discriminate against people with disabilities and the absence of policies in place and enforced that are designed to accommodate people with disabilities; and lack of accommodation for barriers to communication, including large print materials, sign language interpreters, and staff who are willing to try to communicate with impaired patients during scheduling or other interactions. ● Race and Sex ● geographic area of residence

Language barriers, socioeconomics and is definitely one of them. .It can cause I work at animal hospital and it’s hard to communicate with clients who don’t speak english. We try our best to communicate with them if they don’t have someone to translate for them....
