Description

Richard is contending two points of persuasion which identifies that businesses with a physical presence will continue to thrive in the consumer industry and online retailers such as Amazon is prevailing in the field of virtual sales. Based off his personal experience in the retail industry, Richard aims to convince readers that Brick and Mortar stores have an edge in its continuance by providing a relevant in-person shopping experience to purchasers. Richard proclaims that Brick and Mortar stores are increasing their online presence while virtual retailers are enhancing their features to keep pace with the evolution of Brick and Mortar businesses. The sources provided by Richard are great tools to assist his argument on the relevancy of Brick and Mortar stores. Richard seemed to have effectively applied the C.R.A.A.P test to support the key points noted in his writing plan. However, I think Richard should take a deeper look of the sources available to reinforce the opposing viewpoint of his argument. It seems the source titled “Amazon Pushes Further into Grocery Business With New Los Angeles Store” which is provided as the rebuttal is more supportive of Brick and Mortar locations and identifies online retailers seeking to get a foot on the grounds of creating a physical presence. I believe this source does not clearly identify a critic of his argument and he should consider revisiting the recommended databases (Academic Search Ultimate and Opposing Viewpoints) to search the following keywords “online return, shipping fees”, “Amazon, Walmart return fees.” These searches might result in an article that focuses on the fees charged by online retailers, Richard could consider to use the online fees charges as his opposing argument which he can refute by explaining the benefits of online purchases such as the expedited shipping options available. One of the sources titled “Walmart Streamlining Returns Process With its app” could use further clarification on a section of the summary. Richard summarized that “this source is educating on the benefits of the Walmart app that will help aid quick returns, even to the point that you don’t even have to bring it back to the store. “ Having reviewed the article, I believe Richard could have improved the summary by expanding on the quick return feature by perhaps wording his summary as “this source is educating on the benefits of the Walmart app that will help aid quick returns, Walmart plans to give customers the option to donate or discard certain items selected for refunds instead of returning the items to the store.” Richard did a great job in identifying the origin of his sources, I think Richard could take this a step further to include the websites he retrieved the sources from. It seems only one of his sources were from the Academic Search Ultimate which provides citation to include the website the article was retrieved from; if the other sources Richard mentioned were also from Academic Search Ultimate, he could go into the database and retrieve the citation details; if the sources were not from Academic Search Ultimate or the Opposing Viewpoints database, I would recommend Richard search these database for the articles he mentioned to ensure that the information is credible. Majority of the sources Richard identified in his annotated bibliography connects to one of the claims of his argument which asserts that Brick and Mortar stores will continue to thrive. Richard was able to state his claim and successfully include details from his sources to support his reasoning. Richard could strengthen the connection of his argument and sources by including quoted information from his resources into his essay. This will solidify the reasoning of his essay. Richard is on a nice path to identifying a counterargument in his annotations. He recognized the source titled “Amazon Pushes Further into Grocery Business With New Los Angeles Store” as his opposing point however I think this source would be a challenge to refute as it supports the claim of the continuation of

Brick and Mortar. I feel this would present a contradiction of his points to be more in favor of Brick and Mortar stores in contrast to the dominating presence of online stores in the retail industry. Perhaps Richard might want to consider focusing solely on the evolution of Brick and Mortar as his sources along with his experience in retail will present a stronger conviction for his essay. Richard has done extensive research to select his sources and continues to search for additional sources that provide factual details that will assist with his persuasion. Two of his supporting sources “Brick and Mortar Retailers Finally have Amazon in Their Sights” and “Still Betting on Brick and Mortar” are strong tools to use in his persuasion as the articles indicate the growing development of Brick and Mortar and the changes they’ve implemented to continue to attract consumers by delivering a unique in-store experience based on having the right people to provide exceptional service and integrating useful technology that will enhance the consumers’ experience. Richard is on a great track to developing a secure argument, I would love to see if he stays the path to present both points and the additional materials he will find to support his claims....
