DISPOSITION Professional Disposition are professional attitudes, values and beliefs showed through both verbal and coverbal behaviors as educators interact with students, families, colleagues, and communities. Teachers with high dispositions see a bigger picture than colleagues with lower disposition. Model Codes of Ethics is a conduct which beliefs and attitudes are displayed through the actions of teachers in the classroom. Teachers with positive attitudes can display the skills, traits, and attributes that can elevate in a great teaching realm in the eyes of the students, colleagues, and the community. As I look at becoming an educator I’m going to be looking for ways to put the Professional Dispositions to work in the classroom. Professional Dispositions are going to help me better prepare the students for the things of this World. The teachers have had in the past prepared me and they did that because they have the qualities of the dispositions. I can remember my teacher Mrs. Best telling me something like, Jackie you can do anything you set your mind to. When you have teachers like Mrs. Best that care for the well-being of the student it will make a difference. The teachers I had after Mrs.

Best was good but it is a difference in being good and great. I think to be great you must be involved in the planning, thinking and skills of teaching and know that Model Code of Ethics form which you are teaching. We as educators have to understand that we have to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5 NKJV) The Model Code of Ethics in the classroom from my past experience was how the teacher treated the students. They did not care if they were black, white, boy or girl they were going to respect the students. I can remember them being on time when it came to making sure they could give the students their best for the time they were there. The teachers always I felt were doing things to prepare us for the World. I will never forget when I was in high school and we had a midget teacher. His name was Mr. McDaniels. Mr. McDaniels told us one day that it don’t matter what you go through in life always know that every day you are being judged so when you go out in the World be on your best behavior and look your best. He said that you will never know what or who you will encounter. I will never forget that and till this day I keep in touch with Mr. McDaniels. Teachers like Mr. McDaniels and Mrs. Best come by more than less because they car but won’t really go above and beyond to make sure you have the skills, traits and attributes to make it in the World. We have to be able to conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. When you do that then you know that you are doing what God want you to be doing (Romans 12:2 NKJV). When I think about becoming an educator and the educators in the past I would say that they had to have had some standards and some of those standards are skills, traits

and attributes that you have to be a leader and not so much as a follower. You have to have some since of diversity and really know what you are teaching, but above all know what you are helping the kids learn. The skills, traits and attributes I have seen in my past is where the teacher will get involved in school activities during or after school. The teachers will show love, compassion to the kids they are teaching. They try to understand the things that’s going on to try and stay up to date so they stay interactive with kids. The skills I think I will have to develop would be that I don’t know everything and that I can learn something from the kids as well as they learn from me as a teacher. You have to be a willing vessel and allow God to work in you so you can be the best educator the kids will get the best teaching. The only way you can really show your skills, traits and attributes in a classroom you have to know what they really are that you possess. When you look online you will find a lot of things about the skills, traits and attributes but one that I like is the five qualities of a great teacher according to students (pearsoned.com, Oct. 2016). Professional Disposition are how we handle situations in and out of school. Educators that have been teaching longer than other teachers look at things a lot different than the ones with less experience. Model Codes of Ethics should always be the way you carry yourself when you are being an educator. Teachers in the classroom should be able to show that they have what it take to be an educator and be able to display that they have talent to teach the kids....
