Professional Disposition Reflection

When I was in kindergarten, my teacher would often say to me that I was a born leader. Once she made that statement, I knew that I wanted to become a teacher. For someone to speak those words to me spoke volume to me. I felt that my teacher saw something in me that I did not see in myself. I just knew that it meant something to me. Becoming an educator is more than effective planning, instructional knowledge, and teaching skills, because it also includes your professional dispositions. Professional dispositions not only include commitments and values, but they also include professional ethics that have a major impact on our student’s behaviors. It also affects, the professional growth of us, as educators. My self-assessment supports my professional disposition statement by way of letting me know that, I will always be looking for ways to improve my skills, as I become a teacher. I believe if I find resources that I may need to support my areas of weakness, it will be very helpful. Professional development is often offered for support for new teachers in my district. My goal will be to make sure that every student in my classroom is able to learn, no matter what strategies that I have to use, to make it happen. I know that I have grown in my professional disposition because the more I learn the more I want to learn. I believe that all students can, if you are patient with them. The ESL teacher at the elementary school where I work asked me to help tutor some of her students. Without hesitation, I immediately accepted her request. We had so much fun learning from each other. I built a relationship with the students and from that point we respected one another and learned from one another. They told me that they really enjoyed me helping them. I am also very punctual and reliable when it

comes to my attendance. The reason why I feel this way is because the principal took notice to me being punctual and asked if I would be interested in changing my schedule to coming in earlier and leaving earlier. The principal thanked me for always being there and on time. I will always honor my professional disposition, along with the Model Code of Ethics by making sure to carry myself in a professional manner at all times. The decisions that I make for my future classroom will always be to better my students and to keep them globally competitive for the real world. I will attend professional developments to learn all necessary strategies for my students. There will always be room for learning, no matter how much I have learned. So, whatever I need to help them, I will do my best to get it. Sometimes, I may need some guidance when it comes to their differences, but I will always be open-minded....
